Developed by Alexandra Cunningham, Fatal Attraction is a reiteration of the 1987 classic that goes by the same name and is produced by James Dearden. Although it retains the overall plot of the movie, Paramount+’s version is more of a modern remake and retelling of the original, with more attention to personality disorders and infidelity.
First aired on the platform on April 30th, 2023, Fatal Attraction stars Joshua Jackson as Dan Gallagher and Lizzy Caplan as Alex Forrest, and both of these people work in the same building and have similar professions. Paramount Studios announced the remake of the classic 80s film as a series back in February 2021, where it was set to be produced along with many other remakes. Although the news was met with much skepticism, Fatal Attraction turned out to be a good series that captures the same insanity of Glenn Close but in a different way.
Fatal Attraction begins with Dan’s daughter, Ellen Gallagher, talking to her therapist about her father’s parole. After having killed Alex, Dan was sent to prison for 15 years. Through another timeline, we see what went down between Dan and Alex before things went chaotic. While working on a case, Alex is assigned to be with Dan, and soon enough, the pair start an affair that lasts for a few weeks. Dan eventually tries to forget all of it as he has to think about his wife, Beth, and children. Alex, however, does not take the rejection lightly and develops a keen obsession with Dan.
The plot of Fatal Attraction takes us through this psychologically twisted tale between Dan and Alex that ends with both of them losing what they loved the most. Asides from Joshua and Lizzy, other actors we see on the show are Toby Huss, Brian Goodman, Alyssa Jirrels, and Reno Wilson.
Fatal Attraction 2023: Filming Locations
Throughout the series, we see a variety of places that seem to perfectly match the mood of Fatal Attraction. Although the original 80s classic was filmed in NYC, this time, Paramount Studios decided to film the entirety of the readaptation in California. Principal photography for Fatal Attraction 2023 began during Mid-2022 and ended in earlier months of 2023.
Milan Avenue, South Pasadena:
This cozy space is featured quite a handful of times in Fatal Attraction, as it’s where Dan and his family live. The actual house is considered a local landmark as it has served as a filming location for various movies and TV shows. Costing around $5 Million in today’s money, both the interior and exterior parts of the house are filmed in the series.
We see most of the inner design when Alex decides to visit Dan’s home and talk to her wife, which completely surprises him. Alex knew that Dan’s home was on sale, and she took this opportunity to get closer to his personal life, only to have it backfire on her as Dan became aggressive after finding her talking to Beth.
The Original Pantry Café, California:
Located in Downtown Los Angeles, The Original Pantry Café is where Dan and Mike hang out in the earlier parts of the film. It’s also where his wife, Beth meets up with him after he gets paroled. The beautiful cafe offers a vintage setting with some of the most delicious-looking breakfast meals in town. Dan also spots Alex hanging out at the place during one of the scenes.
Prince Restaurant, Koreatown:
Known for its tasty Korean Chicken, this place is featured a lot in the first few episodes of Fatal Attraction. It’s the place where Alex and Dan hang out and talk about the various kinds of cookies. Dan explains how he was a regular at the place and knew about all of its dishes and treats. Alex then decides to wait for Dan here every single day in hopes that she could get to meet him again.
Asides from being one of the well-known filming locations for Fatal Attraction, The Prince has also served as the prime filming spot for Mad Men, The Woman in Red, and New Girl.
The Palace Theatre Loft:
The most sought-after filming location throughout the entire series would probably be Alex Forrest’s home. The loft not only looks like an architect’s dream, but it also seems to be filled with so much detail that it inevitably gives us an insight into Alex’s mind as the show goes on. The dim ambiance and perfect design make it an apartment home from dreams. Although not much is known about the actual place, it’s believed to represent a loft above the Palace Theatre and could just be a set in the LA Studio.
