The season one finale of the 2023 anime adaptation of Yūji Kaku’s manga series Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku aired in July. This thrilling episode provided a spectacular conclusion to the first season, while also setting the stage for the next installment.
The show climaxed with an intense confrontation between several main characters – Sagiri, Yuzuriha, Shion, and Nurugai – and the formidable Kishikai State warrior Mu Dan. With his vine-like abilities that could cause parasitic flowers to erupt from his opponent’s bodies, Mu Dan proved a terrifying foe.
Animation studio MAPPA delivered visually stunning fight sequences for this episode. Meanwhile, Shion battled fiercely, driven by regret over his friend Tenza’s death earlier in the season. Fueled by this motivation, he repeatedly put his own life at risk against Mu Dan.
This breathtaking showdown now stands out as the highest point of action achieved thus far in the Hell’s Paradise anime adaptation. As the first season drew to an epic close, the fight with Mu Dan left viewers exhilarated and eager for the story to continue when season two arrives.
How Hell’s Paradise Season One Ended?
As the battle raged on, reinforcements arrived in the form of Shion and Nurugai. They showed up just in time to rescue Sagiri and Yuzuriha from certain defeat at the hands of the monstrous Tensen warrior, Mu Dan.
Shion bravely held his ground against the formidable foe. Meanwhile, the others tended to the grievously wounded Senta, carefully removing the parasitic flowers that had taken root in his flesh. The process was excruciatingly painful and caused severe bleeding.
In a gesture of compassion, Nurugai embraced Sagiri, somehow managing to restore a portion of the samurai’s strength and stamina through this simple act. Apparently, this was an ability Nurugai had possessed since childhood.
With Sagiri’s energy now partially renewed, she and Nurugai quickly went to assist Shion against Mu Dan. The three of them worked in unison, but Shion truly stood out during this intense clash. Fueled by anger and guilt over previously running away, his Tao abilities reached new heights.
Just then, with his dying breath, Senta revealed the monster’s critical weak point – the ovule part of the flowers. Armed with this insight, Shion unleashed a devastating strike to take down Mu Dan once and for all. The supposedly unkillable Tensen had finally met his end.
But tragically, both Shion and Senta had sustained grave, life-threatening injuries during the arduous battle. As Mu Dan drew his last breath, the two warriors were fading as well, rapidly bleeding out onto the earth they had just saved.
The Heart-Wrenching Farewell and Yuzuriha’s Disturbing Theories
After the grueling battle, Yuzuriha revealed she had a medicinal salve capable of saving the dying Shion and Senta. But unwilling to use up her entire supply, she only provided enough to heal Shion’s wounds.
As Senta continued fading, Yuzuriha sat with him and offered kind words of comfort in his final moments. Displaying a peaceful smile, Senta passed away as Yuzuriha held his hand.
Sagiri was utterly devastated, weeping until her eyes turned bloodshot red.
Shion then led the grief-stricken survivors to locate shelter and fresh provisions. They spent their third night on the mysterious island tucked inside the small refuge they discovered.
As the group recovered, Sagiri voiced her steadfast belief that the mythical Elixir of Life they sought was real. But Yuzuriha sharply questioned this assumption.
She posited that Gabimaru’s memories featuring an immortal village elder might actually be fabricated illusions, skillfully planted through psychological manipulation.
Horrifyingly, she even suggested Gabimaru’s beloved wife could be just another false persona – perhaps implanted by the village leader solely to motivate Gabimaru to keep striving to stay alive.
Sagiri passionately rejected such notions, refusing to accept these theories.
Where Does Hell’s Paradise Anime End In Manga
The debut season of the Hell’s Paradise anime adaptation spanned the first two major story arcs from the manga source material. Specifically, it included the complete Island Arc (chapters 1-27) and the full Lord Tensen Arc (chapters 28-59).
So for viewers interested in now transitioning to Yūji Kaku’s original Hell’s Paradise manga, the ideal starting point would be chapter 60.
This kicks off the critically acclaimed third arc referred to as the Hōrai Arc, which continues the narrative for another 50 chapters leading up to chapter 110.
The saga then concludes with the poignant Departure Arc that closes out the series across the final 16 chapters, ending on 126.
So by beginning at chapter 60, fans can dive into the unadapted Hōrai Arc storyline featuring intriguing new characters and locales. This will allow readers to experience the manga’s epic conclusion with no prior plot points missed.
You can watch the first season of the show on Crunchyroll.
