Motoring sports is always attractive, and Discovery Networks takes advantage of that with a wide variety of programming showcasing the passion, drive, and love of motorists all over the world. Case in point, the long-running show Wheeler Dealers Season 18, a show that’s proven to get traction, a nice following base, great stories, amazing cinematography and editing as well as good, old, motoring, and overhauling fun.
The series took a break in May this year for the summer, only to come back full speed ahead with more daunting tasks, amazing cars, stories, and lots of fun for fans of motoring, repairing, and overhauling. So far, we’ve seen the boys bring back from shreds to glory cars like a busted Ford Fiesta, a Porsche 911 that was almost in the chassis with almost no parts, a Volkswagen from retro days that nobody would care for, and there’s many more on the way.
So if you like car shows about repairing, and motorsports with a regional twist, why not give Wheeler Dealers a shot of your time? There’s a bunch of seasons and each episode is not like the other.
Recap
In this episode, we see how Mike makes a risky bet by getting a Ford P100. Here’s the deal, that car spent most of its life in the harsh, humid, and warm weather of South Africa. Mike imports the vehicle and once it lands on his hands he’s impressed by what he has to do. He must deal with rust, a busted motor, the interiors are a mess, the dashboard has non-functioning lights as well as sun spots, and the seats, well that’s a horror story on its own.
But when have these sorts of hurdles stopped Mike from doing what he loves to do? So, he gets to work. First things first, he looks under the hood to see what’s salvageable and what isn’t. One of the main problems concerning this car is that being relocated to Scotland —a land that’s known for having very inhospitable weather for machines— can withstand the weather conditions after its repair.
A normal person wouldn’t give two cents for this car, let alone repair it. But Mike gets under the hood, works the motor, and the radiator, and greases up and rids of rust and dirt in every nook and cranny of this vehicle to see if he can bring it back to his days of thunder.
After the motor’s done, he goes into the interior, he removes the dashboard, and the seats, has new upholstery, renews the lights, orders a steering wheel, and polishes everything to try and make it look nice. And while he complains about how difficult it can be to procure original parts for such an old piece of machinery, he gets the job done.
Then comes the paint job, rust is removed, a brand new coat of paint is applied, and then, the car is transported to Italy for a road trip in which it performs impeccably, showing us just how talented these guys are at their work.
