The Righteous Gemstones Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

A flashback scene opens the episode. “Baby” Billy (played by Walton Goggins) takes his son Harmon and his wife to the mall, promising Harmon that for his birthday, he will get him whatever he wants. Harmon is looking for a kitten, so they go to the pet store. “Baby,” Billy says goodbye to his kid and disappears from their lives after distracting his then-wife with an errand.

BJ is currently preparing to be baptized by Eli in a large ceremony organized by Judy (Edi Patterson). For the ceremony, his agnostic family travels to Charleston, South Carolina. Judy, as usual, is self-centered and has little time for her husband’s family. Judy puts them up in a hotel despite having a mansion with 14 rooms. When BJ’s family mentions it, she says she and BJ are already hosting “Baby” Billy and a visibly pregnant Tiffany at their house.

Jesse & Amber

Jesse and Amber also inform the Lissons that they will not be able to invest the $20 million they promised in Zion’s Landing. Eli is in charge of the Gemstone Ministries’ finances and refuses to get personally involved in Zion’s Landing. The Lissons mock the Gemstones and leave suddenly as a result of this. Meanwhile, Kelvin (Adam DeVine) fights to keep control of the God Squad after Eli refuses to let them go to Israel and walk the path that Christ is said to have walked. Kelvin, more than any other of Eli’s children. He appears to have been the hardest hit by the idea that his father can have a love life after Aimee-death.

As Eli baptizes BJ, the ceremony goes fairly smoothly. But, as is customary with the Gemstones, things quickly devolve into chaos. When Judy corners BJ’s sister in the toilet and claims that her (Judy’s) brothers have perverted feelings for her, BJ’s sister realizes how insane Judy is. Later, BJ’s sister confronts her brother, who angrily hurls a fistful of cake at her, which hits Eli. Eli is at his wit’s end by the time Kelvin confronts his father, shoving and hitting him. Deep within him, a pro wrestler resurfaces, and he breaks his youngest child’s thumbs.
