Zoe Ball has been missing from BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show for over five weeks, with her last appearance on August 8. During her absence, Gaby Roslin and Scott Mills have been filling in for her.
The BBC has not provided any explanation for Zoe Ball’s extended absence from her Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
However a BBC insider, speaking to the news outlet, said:
“Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe.
“We hope everything is okay. Zoe is so loved at the BBC so to not have her around is really noticeable.”
Fans have been vocal on social media about Zoe Ball’s prolonged absence, expressing concern and questioning her whereabouts.
One Radio 2 listener, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said:
“Listening and watching all the #R2InThePark content.
“What has happend to Zoe Ball? She’s been off the Radio for 5 weeks in total – no mention of her whatsoever the last few weeks. I hope she’s ok.”
Another person commented:
“When is Zoe Ball back on @BBCRadio2.”
While a third person added:
“I hope #ZoeBall is OK.”
Some listeners have suggested a permanent change to the hosting role on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, proposing potential replacements for Zoe Ball.
One person on X said:
“I have no issue with Zoe Ball but I have to say I would have no problem with #scottmills taking the role permanently.
“Could become the next breakfast show leg end !”
Zoe Ball’s latest absence follows a period earlier this year when she took time off due to her mother Julia’s cancer diagnosis. Julia passed away a month after the diagnosis, leaving Zoe and her family feeling “bereft.”
The BBC has confirmed that Zoe Ball will be returning to her Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.
Although the exact return date hasn’t been specified, the Radio 2 website suggests she might be back as soon as Monday, September 23.
Scott Mills is scheduled to host The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show this week. However, the episode synopsis for September 23, which includes a picture of Zoe Ball, suggests she will return to the show that day, with the description:
“Wake up and embrace the day with Zoe Ball and the team. Zoe keeps the tunes rolling on Maximum Music Monday.”
