American football quarterback Patrick Lavon Mahomes plays quarterback for the National Football League (NFL) Kansas City Chiefs. He was a college football and baseball player at Texas Tech University. His father was former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Pat Mahomes.
He gave up baseball after his sophomore year to concentrate entirely on football. He led all NCAA Division I FBS players in several categories during his junior year, including total touchdowns (53), passing yards (5,052), and passing efficiency.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes’ deal was restructured by the Chiefs and himself on September 18, 2023, providing him $210.6 million throughout four seasons—the highest salary in NFL history.
Mahomes became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 200 touchdowns in Week 4 against the Jets, passing for his 200th career touchdown in only his 84th start. He also broke Alex Smith’s team record for the most career running yards by a quarterback with his 51 rushing yards in the contest. Mahomes became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to defeat every other team in addition to his own after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5.
