Sad news for FIFA fans! Leah Williamson, the captain of England, will not compete in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Arsenal that the defender got field injuries on Wednesday Night. During Arsenal vs. Manchester United, the defender tore her anterior cruciate ligament.
Williamson’s team, Arsenal, lost to Manchester United by 1-0. Well, in addition to this loss, the center-back player injured her anterior ligament and has been ruled out of the tournament due to sustained injuries. Moreover, one of Williamson’s teammates at Arsenal had already been forced to sit out of this competition. We can now only hope that we can see both of them playing together at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
The world’s biggest women’s football tournament, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, is set to begin on 20th July 2023. The competition is going to take place in Australia and New Zealand regions. It will last for one month, and the finale will be played on 20th August 2023.

What happened to Leah Williamson?
The 26-year-old is going to likely miss the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand. Williamson went down on the ground after she had played around 11 minutes of the match. She had to be taken on a stretcher off the pitch. She’ll probably require surgery before she can start her road to recovery.
Arsenal released a statement on Friday confirming the seriousness of her injury. They said that she ruptured her anterior ligament during the match again Manchester United on Wednesday.
She was substituted during the first half of the same after she went off the pitch. She underwent several tests to check the severity of her injury. Leah is now expected to spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines. She’ll eventually need surgery to get back.
In the absence of their captain, England’s chances of winning the world cup have taken a major setback. They were previously termed to be the favorites after winning the Euro 2023. Williamson’s knee almost popped after an almost harmless challenge against Manchester United.
She’s going to have to spend an extended spell recovering.
The central defender, who also plays midfielder, was doing great for Arsenal. She was instrumental in England’s Euro 2022 win.

After the match, Williamson posted heartful captioned photos on Instagram. She wrote on social media that her journey at World Cup was over now, but her main concern was what she would go through day after day.
“Unfortunately, the World Cup and Champions League dream is over for me, and everyone will think that’s the main focus, but it’s the day-to-day of what I’m about to go through that is the most draining of my thoughts.”
Further, she expressed that the night is gone. She did cry about the unfortunate event. However, she had to make peace with it. The footballer also expressed that though she is upset about the event, she will not lose hope. She would come back stronger then and near future.
