Kakashi’s genius was inherited from his father, the legendary Sakumo, known as the White Fang. Sakumo possessed abilities on par with the venerated Sannin but sacrificed an important mission to save his comrades, for which he was disgraced.
At thirteen, Kakashi attained jounin status, the youngest ever in Konoha. There was no ceremony for this milestone. Instead, he was tasked with leading his first mission – to sabotage a bridge and halt forces from the Earth Country.
Kakashi’s team included Rin, a medical kunoichi, and Uchiha Obito of the famed Uchiha clan. When Rin was captured, Kakashi prioritized the mission, but Obito insisted on saving her, evoking Sakumo’s example. Obito’s words inspired Kakashi to reconsider.
What Happened To Kakashi’s Sharingan?
Fans are well aware of the backstory behind how Kakashi first obtained a Sharingan eye. During the Third Great Ninja War, Obito made the fateful decision to gift Kakashi one of his Sharingan eyes.
This occurred after Kakashi suffered an injury impairing his left eye in battle. Knowing he was nearing death from his own wounds, Obito selflessly gave up one of his clan’s prized doujutsu to replace Kakashi’s damaged eye.
In the future timeline of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kakashi tragically lost that original transplanted Sharingan when it was taken by Madara Uchiha. However, thanks to Naruto utilizing his newfound Sage of Six Paths powers, he was able to restore Kakashi’s eye once again.
Remarkably, this even resulted in Kakashi gaining a second Sharingan eye as well! Therefore, despite the trials and tribulations Kakashi faced, from nearly losing his eye to Obito’s sacrifice to Madara stealing his Sharingan, Kakashi ultimately ended up with the powerful gift of two Sharingan eyes thanks to Naruto’s intervention.
There was some confusion amongst fans about how Kakashi obtained his second Mangekyo Sharingan since Obito was deceased at the time. Many found it illogical that Kakashi could gain a second Sharingan this way.
However, some theorize Obito used his Kamui ability to transfer remnants of his chakra, temporarily granting Kakashi two Mangekyo Sharingan to utilize. Kakashi was able to briefly wield both doujutsu while battling Kaguya Otsutsuki. Eventually, the borrowed Sharingan reverted back to their original owner, Obito Uchiha, resulting in Kakashi losing both eyes once again.
Following Obito’s death in the Naruto storyline, Kakashi ultimately lost the Sharingan powers he had briefly regained. Despite this loss, Kakashi went on to become Hokage, leading the Hidden Leaf Village capably and earning widespread respect, even without the famed Uchiha kekkei genkai.
Fans did question how he could perform his signature Lightning Cutter technique without the predictive powers of the Sharingan. But Kakashi adapted, creating a new jutsu, the Lightning Flash, to replace his old go-to move.
