Guru Jagat, a prominent figure in the yoga community, passed away at the age of 41 due to a pulmonary embolism following ankle surgery.
She founded the RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Science and Technology, which has multiple locations worldwide, and her death was confirmed by the institute via social media, highlighting the profound impact she had on her followers and the yoga community.
Born Katie Griggs in Fort Collins, Colorado, Jagat was a devoted student of Kundalini yoga, a spiritual form of yoga popularized by Yogi Bhajan.
Although she claimed to have never met him, she was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and celebrity connections, having opened several RA MA studios across the globe, authored a book titled Invincible Living, and hosted a podcast, Reality Riffing. Her influence extended beyond yoga; she created her own fashion line, the Guru Jagat Collection.
Jagat is survived by her husband, Teg Nam, and her passing has been commemorated by the RA MA Institute with 17 days of chanting, a traditional practice intended to assist the soul’s journey after death.
Kundalini yoga, the practice Jagat dedicated her life to, focuses on awakening the Kundalini energy believed to reside at the base of the spine through various techniques including chants, breathing exercises, and specific postures.
This practice aims to foster spiritual growth and awareness, reflecting Jagat’s mission to spread light and healing through yoga.
