When it comes to football, players often get injured, and while some recover quickly, there are rare cases where others do not. It is disheartening to see a player suffer due to an injury, but it’s even worse when it’s a young and promising player.
Recently, Gavi suffered a harsh injury and is due to undergo surgery. The player will likely be staying away from the games for almost a year to ensure a steady recovery.
Puyol, the Barcelona legend, shared some wise words, telling the young player to be patient. Puyol also advised him not to rush and said that he paid dearly due to his unwillingness to rest. Gerard Pique also told the young player to be patient and rest even if it meant ten months away from all the action.
What Happened To Gavi?
The Spanish footballer Gavi suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, or simple ACL tear, and some of his meniscus was also damaged. The 2022 Golden Boy winner plays as a central midfielder for La Liga club Barcelona and the Spain national team. Born in 2004, the player hasn’t even turned 20 but has proved himself as an exceptional player.
Gavi got injured while playing an international match against Georgia and will be out for the rest of this season. Although there are backups and other better players who will be ready to take the player’s empty spot, Gavi’s skillset will be almost impossible to replace.
De la Fuente said that Gavi is hyperactive and never wants to stop.
Although this bit is true, Gavi should learn when to rest and take care of his body. The number of games this young player has played ever since his debut is great, but it also shows how unhealthy it could be. This behavior isn’t sustainable for players even in their mid-twenties or approaching their peaks. This means this kind of “hyperactive” behavior is even more dangerous for young players.
There’s no point in questioning the people pulling these strings, but this serious injury that Gavi sustained only proves that rest is just as important as playing every possible game. At some point, you’ve got to say, “I need rest, my body needs rest, I can’t go on,” and Gavi didn’t know that.
Gavi was playing for Spain against Georgia in the European Championship when his ACL tore completely in his right knee. The game was on Sunday, and the medical reports were out the next day, on Monday. A new medical report will be released post-surgery. However, there hasn’t been any official announcement related to the date of the surgery.
How Did Gavi Tear His ACL?
In case you missed the game, here’s a little recap of what happened. Gavi was trying to control the ball when he collided with Luka Lochoshvili, a player from the opposing team, and landed awkwardly on the ground. Fans were feeling different things and voicing their worries. However, Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, said that the collision incident is completely unrelated to Gavi’s ACL tear.
He also mentioned that Gavi was in perfect condition and was fresh as well as in great shape after his break. The injury broke everyone, and the coach mentioned that it felt like they had lost the game in the dressing room.
It’s also heartbreaking to know that De la Fuente said Gavi never thought these things could happen to him. He is struggling now that the worst has happened. He is broken and destroyed; everyone is fragile and is struggling with the news. Of course, this would have hurt anybody, but this cuts even deeper because Gavi is an exceptionally talented young player.
We wish nothing but the best to the player and the team for its upcoming games. We hope Gavi recovers well and comes back stronger than before!
