Investigation in Death Case
After Sushant’s father filed an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty, she took the case to the Supreme Court, leading to the apex court ordering a CBI probe.
In December 2020, when BJP MP Subramanian Swamy sought an update, the CBI revealed that the investigation was still ongoing and they hadn’t reached any conclusions.
The CBI stressed their use of advanced scientific techniques during a comprehensive investigation. Officials connected to the case traveled to various places, including Aligarh, Faridabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Manesar, and Patna, to gather evidence and record statements.
Moreover, experts conducted a simulation exercise to grasp the circumstances surrounding Sushant’s death. The CBI questioned doctors at Cooper Hospital, where the autopsy took place after Sushant was rushed there following his discovery of the deceased.
Initially, Mumbai Police considered it a suicide, filing an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and investigating it as such. Bihar Police launched a similar inquiry based on his father’s FIR. Both investigations were halted when the case moved to the CBI in August 2020.
Despite the AIIMS ruling out foul play, the CBI is yet to decide whether it was a murder or suicide.
Parallel investigations by NCB and ED explored the case from the perspectives of drugs and money laundering. On September 8, 2020, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the NCB, spending almost a month in Byculla Jail, Mumbai, and currently being out on bail.
