Games Workshop has revealed the first trailer for The Butcher’s Nails, a new Warhammer 40,000 animated production that puts viewers directly inside the helmet of a Chaos Space Marine. Revealed during the company’s Big Summer Preview showcase, the upcoming animation is headed to Warhammer TV and promises an intense, action-packed experience centered on the infamous World Eaters Legion.

Unlike previous Warhammer animations, The Butcher’s Nails presents much of its action through a first-person viewpoint, allowing fans to witness combat exactly as its main character experiences it. The preview offers a fresh perspective on the brutal warfare that defines the Warhammer 40,000 universe while highlighting one of Chaos’ most feared factions.

Makrath leads the assault in The Butcher’s Nails

The animation follows Makrath, a World Eaters Berzerker, as he joins forces with members of the Iron Warriors during an assault against loyalist Space Marines supported by the Astra Militarum.

The newly released trailer showcases relentless close-quarters combat, with Makrath charging through enemy forces using both ranged and melee attacks. Because the action is presented from inside his helmet, viewers see futuristic HUD elements throughout the battle, including weapon displays, enemy markers, and a Bolter positioned at the bottom of the screen in a style familiar to first-person science-fiction games.

One of the trailer’s standout moments features Makrath dispatching an Imperial Fist with a point-blank Bolter shot before continuing his advance through the battlefield.

Following the trailer reveal, Games Workshop shared additional details about the project on Warhammer Community, confirming that the unusual camera perspective is a defining feature of the animation.

According to the studio:

“Much of the action is from Makrath’s perspective literally depicting what he sees from inside his helmet.”

Games Workshop also described the pacing of the episode, adding:

“The action is relentless the entire episode is almost a single non-stop fight scene.”

The comments suggest that the animation will focus less on lengthy exposition and more on showcasing the savage combat style associated with the World Eaters.

Who are the World Eaters?

The World Eaters are one of the original Chaos Space Marine Legions in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Once led by their Primarch Angron, the legion became infamous for embracing overwhelming aggression after many of its warriors received the cybernetic Butcher’s Nails implants. These implants heighten rage while suppressing higher reasoning, transforming their bearers into relentless close-combat fighters devoted to Khorne, the Chaos God of Blood and War.

The title of the upcoming animation references these implants, which have become one of the defining traits of the legion throughout Warhammer lore.

Although Games Workshop has yet to announce a release date, The Butcher’s Nails is expected to arrive on Warhammer TV in the near future. Based on its debut trailer, the animation appears set to deliver one of the most immersive depictions of Chaos Space Marine combat seen in an official Warhammer production.
