The Walk-In is a riveting state-of-the-world series that was written by Jeff Pope, an Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated and multi-award-winning screenwriter. Jeff Pope wrote the five-part drama, which is set against the backdrop of the EU vote at a time when divisions in the UK were at an all-time high.
Right-wing animosity was fueled by the anti-immigration rhetoric used by those who wanted to leave the EU. The murder of Labour MP Jo Cox, a staunch Remainer, was the most overt indication of how deeply nasty the debate had become.
A member of National Action, an outlawed extreme right-wing organization in the UK, had intended to murder someone similar to Cox, but Collins’ dedication to the cause prevented it.
It is a powerful, conscience-stirring drama that looks at some of the most significant and contemporary issues of our time, such as racism, free speech, and terrorism. It’s not the lightest series to watch, but it’s tremendously significant since it deals with the growth of neo-Nazis and far-right nationalism.
Former Neo-Nazi activist Matthew Collins, played by Stephen Graham, is now hired as a respectable journalist by the anti-racist organization Hope not Hate. In the upcoming episodes, we will learn more about Matthew Collins’ past.
From the first episode, it is clear that Collins is a very empathetic and brilliant man who has turned his life around by working for underrepresented groups. Collins is presented to us in episode two as a bright-eyed adolescent who has just started a new life in the far-right, which is a long cry from his background as a neo-Nazi.
The Walk-In Episode 2 Recap
Insider for National Action Robbie Mullen contacts Matthew Collins and Hope Not to Hate to try and stop the murder of another MP, but by doing so, he puts himself at risk. In the second episode of the ITV drama, a distraught Robbie Mullen comes to the conclusion that he must prevent National Action from killing another person. He risks his own life by sending an email.
Fortunately, Matthew Collins is there to receive the email; having been in Robbie’s shoes himself, he understands precisely how the man feels. It appears that Hope Not Hate may have located a potential mole inside National Action. Robbie will be their “walk-in,” but Matthew and the Hope Not Hate team need to be certain that he is the proper fit. As a result, Robbie will put himself in great danger as he battles National Action from within.
The Walk-In Episode 3
Although Mullen is suspected by National Action, he rejects the prospect of a new start and a new identity through the witness protection program. He wants to abandon everything, but without his proof, those responsible for the murder of Rosie Cooper MP might get away with it. Mullen must be kept secure. Thus, activist Matthew Collins must take him into his own house.
Robbie Mullen, who assisted law enforcement in apprehending members of National Action, refuses to go into witness protection because he believes Matthew Collins and Hope Not Hate will safeguard him.
