Cygames created Uma Musume Pretty Derby, which is a multi-platform series. A mobile game was scheduled for release in late 2018 but was postponed to February 2021. A 13-episode anime television series by P.A. Works aired between April and June 2018, followed by a second season by Studio Kai in January and March 2021.
There are two seasons to the anime adaptation of Uma Musume Pretty Derby. During the first season, Special Week, a determined horse girl at Tracen Academy aspires to be the best horse girl in Japan to fulfill her mother’s wish. It is her dream to join Silence Suzuka’s team.

The first episode of Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a promising start to the ONA series. In the show, three horse girls are featured: Top Road, Ayabe, and Opera, all of which have their designs and personalities. A new trainer and race commentator add a fresh perspective to the show as well. The animation is stunning, with noticeable improvements in the art style and the visuals for the races.
Among the many noteworthy aspects of the episode are the attention to detail in character writing, which remains excellent. The episode also offers intriguing world-building, with glimpses of aged horsewomen and the possibility of horse girls having human fathers. Adding small details like tail brushing to the characters’ lives makes them more than just horses.
In addition to the catchy OP, the commentary delivered by Masahiro Yamamoto adds authenticity to the show, given his background as a former NPB pitcher and horse racing lover. Even though the plot is still being developed, the episode establishes the characters and their objectives nicely.
The episode broadcast on the same day as the actual Satsuki Sho, adding to the show’s reality.
