Synopsis
Many decades ago, the legendary gumiho, or nine-tailed fox, our protagonist Lee Yeon was forced to move out from his home and settle in the city. Having the ability to transform into a human, Kee Yeon’s job was to protect the human world from the threats that the other supernatural beings posed. He had become a part of the mortal realm, safeguarding it while having another true objective for his dwelling.
Lee Yeon’s true reason behind staying in the city and interacting with the humans for so long was just to find and reunite with his past lover, who had reincarnated. The first season of Tale of the Nine-Tailed tells the story of Lee Yeon’s search for his lover, who he finally discovers to be Nam Ji Ah.
However, problems start arising soon after the couple is together. Lee Yeon is somehow transported to the year 1938 as a result of an unexpected case and finds himself running into Ryu Hong Joo once again. She used to be the western mountain’s guardian spirit, but today she runs a posh eatery in Gyeongseong, the country’s capital.
Along with that, he meets Lee Rang, his younger brother, who, despite being half-human, has a hatred for the human species and enjoys trapping them through his seductive tactics and promises of accomplishing fake desires. Cheon Moo Young, an ex-friend, and another former guardian spirit, had suddenly become hostile towards Lee Yeon in the meantime.
Stuck in a whole different time period, Lee Yeon finds it difficult to get back to the present and his loved one. He must work hard in order to survive and save himself from the clutches of death in order to return to his lover Nam Ji Ah, with whom he had just been able to spend some time.
