At his Miami concert on Sunday, January 28, Travis Scott turned a janitor into an unexpected star by gifting him $5,000 to take a break from work and join the audience.
A TikTok video capturing the moment went viral, showcasing the “Antidote” rapper’s spontaneous generosity during his Circus Maximus Tour at the Kaseya Center.
Halting the show, Travis Scott addressed the janitor from the stage, declaring, “Hey, yo, today you gonna be off.” Amidst cheers from the crowd, he instructed someone to retrieve $5,000 from his bag, urging the worker to take the night off, emphasizing, “Ain’t no cleaning up that for you tonight.”
Swiftly, the unidentified man took center stage, garnering attention from numerous cell phones. Recordings captured his elated reaction, marked by a wide smile, a triumphant fist raised in the air, and warm handshakes exchanged with coworkers.
Scott emphasized his desire for the man to fully immerse himself in the concert experience, encouraging him to forget about work and become just another enthusiastic fan in the crowd.
“I just seen you come out the back, I don’t know who the f–k told you to go get a mop. Only way he clocking in is only if he can rage,” Scott continued. “He feining for more.” The rapper then sent the audience into a frenzy by performing his hit “FE!N” from his latest album, Utopia.
Launching the Circus Maximus Tour in October 2023 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Travis Scott is set to conclude the tour in Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday, February 5.
Despite the ongoing success of the tour, Scott continues to grapple with multiple lawsuits stemming from the tragic events at the November 2021 Astroworld Festival in Houston. The festival, marred by 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries, sparked severe criticism for Scott, who faced backlash for not halting the show as the massive crowd surged towards the stage, resulting in tragic fatalities due to crushing.
“Nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rap Album category, ‘Utopia’ marks Travis Scott’s first solo album in five years. Production on the album was temporarily halted in the aftermath of the tragic Astroworld incident. In a November 2023 interview featured in GQ’s Men of the Year issue, Scott took a reflective stance on the deadly incident.”
Expressing the profound impact of the Astroworld tragedy, Scott shared, “That moment for families, for the city, you know, it was devastating. I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans to the utmost. You just feel for those people. And their families.”
Acknowledging ongoing healing from the tragic events, Scott revealed, “I am still healing. It took time for me to find the inspiration to go back into the studio.”
“Making music, you think about things that go on in life and things that happen in your life, and you dial in on things,” he said. “And when it came to making, like, even finishing the album … I got back into it probably, like, I don’t know, months and months and months after.
And the idea of just even getting back into music, working on music and just even getting into that, was therapeutic of being able to channel some of the energy into production and sounds and finishing it.”
