Travis Hunter, University of Colorado’s football star and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, and his fiancée Leanna Lenee deactivated their Instagram and TikTok accounts. The move followed mounting criticism of their relationship, particularly after the Heisman ceremony. Hunter’s Twitch channel, where he regularly streams, remains active.
The controversy began on December 14 during the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Fans criticized Lenee for not standing when Hunter’s name was announced. Videos from the event fueled further speculation, including a moment where Lenee appeared upset at a pop-up shop. Critics alleged it was due to Hunter not giving her enough attention.
Before deactivating her account, Lenee responded to the backlash in a seven-minute TikTok video. She explained her behavior during the ceremony, attributing her decision to stay seated to observing Hunter’s mother. Lenee expressed frustration at fabricated stories and reaffirmed her unwavering support for Hunter, saying, “I truly love that man. He is perfect in my eyes.”
Lenee also addressed rumors about the origins of her relationship. She denied being involved with Hunter when he had a girlfriend, explaining she ignored his initial messages out of respect. “I don’t do home-wrecking,” she said, asserting her values and support for women. She also clarified previous comments about Hunter not being her “type,” emphasizing she dates based on character, not physical appearance.
Following the backlash, Hunter revealed on Twitch that Lenee had cried herself to sleep. He shared his frustration with the criticism, stating, “If she’s hurting, of course I’m hurting.” Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders publicly supported the couple, condemning athletes and celebrities for adding to the controversy for attention.
Hunter and Lenee, engaged since 2024, continue to face challenges as they navigate their high-profile relationship in the public eye.
