A former Trump administration official, Michael Gill, 56, fell victim to a series of deadly carjackings in Washington, DC. The incident unfolded when 28-year-old Artell Cunningham shot Gill while attempting to steal his vehicle parked at Mount Vernon Square on Monday. Cunningham’s crime spree continued as he fatally shot 35-year-old Alberto Vasquez Jr. during another carjacking.
Afterward, Cunningham fled to Prince George’s County, conducting two more carjackings on the following morning.
The suspect, possibly in a mental health crisis, was fatally shot by police officers in Maryland on Tuesday. Gill, who previously worked at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission under Donald Trump, tragically lost his life in the attack. Gill is survived by his wife, Kristina, and three children.
In a statement, Kristina Gill expressed the profound loss, describing her husband as a devoted family man and a connector of people. Michael Gill had been working for the Housing Policy Council, a real estate trade association, prior to his untimely death.
