Tori Spelling is currently adapting to her altered reality. Recently, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, aged 50, initiated divorce proceedings against Dean McDermott, her husband of 18 years.
According to a source close to the situation, Spelling is maneuvering through her separation as effectively as possible. The insider revealed,
“It’s been pretty rocky for everyone, but Tori is finding her way.”
“She’s getting used to being a single mom. She’s checking off boxes for her priorities,” they add of Spelling.
“Her main focus was to find a new home for her kids, and they now have a rental. She takes things day by day for now.”
In legal documents obtained, Tori Spelling cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from McDermott, 57.
Spelling has requested the court to grant her spousal support and terminate McDermott’s eligibility for the same, with their official date of separation noted as June 17, 2023.
The actress also sought sole physical custody of their five minor children — Liam Aaron McDermott, 17, Stella Doreen, 15, Hattie Margaret, 12, Finn Davey, 11, and Beau Dean, 7 — while proposing joint legal custody with McDermott’s visitation rights to be determined later.
The filing did not disclose whether the former couple had a prenuptial agreement. Spelling also mentioned that the nature and extent of their respective properties are yet to be determined.
Spelling and McDermott exchanged vows in a private Fiji ceremony on May 7, 2006, following their initial encounter while filming the TV movie Mind Over Murder the year before.
In June 2023, coinciding with the date cited for their separation, McDermott publicly revealed their decision to part ways in a statement shared on his Instagram, which was subsequently deleted.
“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own,” he wrote at the time.
In recent months, both Spelling and McDermott have begun new chapters. McDermott has embarked on a relationship with his new girlfriend, Lily Calo, while Spelling was photographed sharing a kiss with Ryan Cramer, CEO of the Santa Monica-based agency Neuron Syndicate Inc., in November.
Despite their newfound romantic interests, McDermott opened up in March, affirming that Spelling remains his “biggest fan.”
He described her as “caring,” “empathetic,” and someone who “wants the best for everybody,” even “at the expense of her happiness.”
