The good news to the Top Guns fans: in thrilling news recently, we came to know that Paramount is ready to fuel the jet engines one more time with the confirmation that Top Gun 3 has been green-lit. Writer of Top Gun: Maverick’s writer Ehren Kruger is working on the script for the next part of the franchise.
Director Joe Kosinski is also expected to return to direct the new installment. Puck was the first one to talk about Ehren’s involvement in the new movie. Not to mention, but Tom Cruise will make a return alongside Glen Powell and Miles Teller.
One thing to note is that last week, Tom Cruise announced that Warner Bros. has agreed with him to appear in and produce movies for the studio, which makes the timing very interesting for the actor. It was a non-exclusive deal, which means that he can collaborate with other studios too.
More Top Gun Movies
While Cruise has been predominantly identified with Paramount for his previous movies without a formal arrangement, in particular, Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, some could regard this latest move in the Top Gun series as a tactical reaction in the industry’s war for attention surrounding Cruise.
It was mentioned, nevertheless, that this sequel has been under development independently of these latest studio partnerships since late autumn.
Powell, whose ascent to A-list celebrity is still proceeding at a steady clip, will also benefit greatly from the announcement. Powell will be seen with Sydney Sweeney in Anyone, But You. Powell was already recognized by Cruise as a future superstar during the media rounds for Maverick.
Busy Tom Cruise
For the past few years, Cruise has been working on a film that would include shots from the International Space Station.
Though Russian filmmakers beat him to the punch, it would have been the first motion picture to be shot in space. He just inked a contract to develop film franchises for Warner Bros., a rival to Paramount Pictures, although the agreement allowed him to carry on working elsewhere.
In addition to being the lead of the Jack Reacher movie series on Paramount, he is presently working on Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two, another movie in the Paramount franchise.
Successful Top Gun Maverick Movies
“Top Gun: Maverick” proved to be a commercial and critical triumph for both Cruise and Paramount Pictures. It became the actor’s all-time highest-grossing movie and the studio’s second-highest-grossing movie ever, surpassed only by “Titanic” in 1997.
With a $156 million opening weekend, the movie broke box office records over Memorial Day weekend. In addition, it was a record for Cruise personally, breaking his previous high of $64 million from War of the Worlds.
With $718 million in domestic revenue and $1.5 billion worldwide, the movie was an incredible financial success and quickly rose to the top of Cruise’s career.
Like “Titanic,” “Maverick” was nominated for the 95th Academy Awards, but it was defeated by “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” in the Best Picture category. Along with winning Best Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Best Original Song, and Visual Effects, the movie was also nominated for Best Sound.
Happy US Military
The revelation that a new “Top Gun” film is in the works will likely make the American military the happiest. The original 1986 “Top Gun” movie was supposed to increase Navy enlistments by 500%, but it didn’t.
Despite this, interest in the naval service increased significantly after the movie’s debut, with new enlistments reaching 8% that year. The U.S. military is presently experiencing a severe shortage of recruits. Therefore, an 8% increase in recruits is unheard of for the Navy (and other branches).
What can fans expect from Top Gun 3?
While specifics surrounding the film’s release are being kept under wraps by Paramount Pictures, rumors of scalding dogfights, familiar names, and Maverick’s next audacious mission are already circulating.
The forthcoming Top Gun movie might not be released very soon. Tom Cruise’s demanding schedule for the upcoming eighth Mission: Impossible film is likely to keep him occupied until May 2025.
But for the forthcoming Top Gun movie, the 36-year gap between the first and second movies is anticipated to be shortened. All in all, the franchise lovers are excited, and the third movie will be better than the last movie in many ways.
