The Tokyo Ghoul series takes us to a fantasy world where humans and man-eating ghouls live parallelly. Just as scary as it sounds, these two natural foes kept clashing against each other till the strongest ghouls showed up in the underworld and completely messed up the boundaries between the two species. As you can figure out by now, the series is full of graphic scenes and overpowered characters, and it kept us wondering who are the real ‘monsters’ of the story. Not to mention that epic fight scenes require equally strong characters, and that’s something the Tokyo Ghoul franchise will never feel a shortage of.
Well, humans did manage to put up a fight against the ghouls with their advanced technologies but let’s just be honest that the ghouls were far scarier and cooler (at times). If it wasn’t for the strengths of the ghouls who defied the Aogiri tree, CCG could have never defeated the terrorist organization alone. Here, we have come up with the list of the top 10 strongest ghouls whom even any human (or even the ghoul) will think ten times before taking a fight with.
Noro was one of the well-known members of the Aogiri Tree and was also the mentor of Eto. He was a ghoul who possessed both bikaku kagune and kakuja, thereby making him stand proudly among the strongest ghouls of the series. He has a very eerie personality and only tends to show feelings through action.
Thanks to his top-notch healing skills, he can recover from the deadliest wounds pretty fast, even when his torso was cut in half. Moreover, healing up grave injuries gets a lot easier when you can’t feel pain in the first place, and that’s the anomaly Noro made the most of. In his encounter with Uta, Yomo, and Tsukiyama, he survived getting pierced by Uta, having his head kicked off by Yomo, and being stabbed multiple times by Tsukiyama.
Being one of the most infamous leaders of Aogiri Tree, Tatara has to be present on the list. Before joining the organization, he was a member of a Chinese ghoul organization known as Chi She Lian. His most mesmerizing feature is his red eyes, which looks like it can burn you in a sec just if you look at them.
His kagune and kakuja are known to some extent, but with his superhuman ability and Pseudo-Pyrokinesis, he can produce flames reaching a temperature as high as 4,000 degrees Celsius. He defeated so many CCG with his extraordinary power that I lost count after a certain point. He could also change the quantities of fire produced, simply from a small stream in front of his face or a large wave of fire that could engulf multiple enemies in one quick attack.
8. Ayato Kirishima
He is the ‘beloved’ brother of our beautiful Touka and goes by the alias Black Rabbit. He was first recruited by Tatara because of his unique kagune before the downfall. Being someone who finds pleasure in the screams of the victims, he slew many of his fellow ghouls just for the sake of creating chaos. He had no emotional attachments and even considered it as weakness if anyone had it.
Much like his sister, he too possesses Ukaku Kagune, having a bright vermillion color in it. He also had the ability to shoot bullets with his wings and turn them into an unbreakable spear, thereby making him nothing less than a lone wolf. This kagune ability may seem like a weakness to the user, but Ayato made it his strength, and thus close-range became his specialty.
7. Roma Hoito
Don’t be deceived by her looks. This silly-billy clown infiltrated the Anteiku, where she earned the title of Gypsy. Later, she went on to become the leader of the organization. Due to her unique ghoul nature, having both a kagune and kakuja, Roma had inhuman amounts of pain tolerance, durability, regeneration. She is among the very few ghouls who can detach her kagune and sprout a new one. She may look like an innocent teenager, but in reality, she is even older than Tsuneyoshi Washuu and falls among the strongest ghouls.
Our Pseudo sister grew up losing both of her parents, Asaki and Ryouko Fueguchi, slaughtered by ghoul investigators. After coming out of the trauma, she became a member of Aoigiri Tree alias Yotsune where her primary duties concern information gathering. She also served as a strategist and commander when needed. She possesses both of her parent’s kagune, making her a dual user, and secondly, she bears a koukaku that acts as a defensive ability protecting her from any sort of attacks.
5. Donato Porpora
Despite being the priest who took care of the orphanage, Donato became the maniac who secretly ate the kids to fulfill his thirst for blood and delicious soft meat. Although the CCG caught him, he somehow managed to escape the Cochlea prison during the third raid.
His kagune was extremely dangerous close range and could work independently by detaching itself from the body. His super agility and prowess made him rank SS ghoul by CCG, and I am pretty sure that his powers were even scarier than that.
4. Seidou Takizawa
Seidou Takizawa was a former Rank 2 Ghoul Investigator suffering from a major inferiority complex and ended up losing mental stability. He was also a former member of Aoigiri Tree, known by the name Owl after the original one-eyed Owl was declared dead by CCG. Later, he killed Tatara and became a member of Goat.
Extreme flexibility and a ukaku kagune crowned him the name Owl. His kagune featured the Owl’s Special “plumage” of spikes along his shoulder blade, which can fire a barrage of crystallized Rc cells like bullets across long distances. However, his incomplete kakuja took his mental instability to a whole new level, thereby causing a lot of self-harm.
Quzin Yoshimura, better known as just Yoshimura, was an SSS-rated ghoul and also the manager of the Anteiku cafe. He tries to help ghouls who cannot hunt or kill human beings for themselves due to his love of both species. He was referred to as the Non-killing Owl by CCG. Later, he was captured to create one-eyed artificial ghouls.
His ukaku kagune and kakuja made him an overpowered boss. He even ate many other ghouls. This act took his strength to another level. Even with the bulky frame, his speed was unbelievable as he was able to fight against two Special Classes. They were, namely, Yukinori Shinohara and Iwao Kuroiwa.
2. Eto Yoshimura
Eto Yoshimura was the founding leader of Aogiri Tree and also the daughter of Yoshimura and Ukina. Being born as a half-human and half-ghoul hybrid, Eto gained an enhanced prowess due to hybrid vigor, which she can as well control with ease.
Eto’s skill with her kagune is far more advanced than any other ghouls. She can create long appendages and shape it into eyes, mouths, arms, and legs as she liked, and putting her consciousness into it was an easy thing for her. She can also detach her kagune as she likes and implants a part of her kagune inside others, significantly altering their physiology by transmitting Rc patterns to them.
1. Kaneki Ken
The infamous Ken Kaneki, who later became known as the eye-patch ghoul, is the strongest character in the Tokyo Ghoul series. Since Kaneki is the protagonist of the story, we have closely witnessed his happiest moments and also his deepest despairs, making it easier for us to understand how he turned up into a feared monster.
He is ranked SS by CCG, but come on, we all know that he is far more superior than that; maybe an SSSS-rank would have fit perfectly. His story started with a misfortunate date with a ghoul that ended up turning him into a ghoul instead, but on the brighter side, he gained great physical strength, endurance, and regeneration abilities. In fact, the fight between Jason and Kaneki (with the Unravel theme playing in the background) is often considered one of the most iconic fights in anime history. Over the years, he acquired multiple Kagune by eating other ghouls, and this continuous cannibalism led him to develop an incomplete kakuja which helped him to defeat the Yukinori Shinohara, the wielder of the Arata armor.
