You might either know Anthony Lewis Bellew as a professional boxer or for his appearance in Creed films. He joined the show I’m A Celebrity as a late arrival, and with the news of his participation in the show, people have started talking about him. But, before the show, what did Tony do? If you aren’t that into boxing and stuff, then here’s everything about Tony, from his professional career to his income.
Tony, born on 30th November 1982, is a former professional boxer from Liverpool, England. Professionally, Tony competed from 2007 till 2018 but quit that chapter to move on to a new beginning. Since then, he has worked as a boxing analyst and commentator, which you might have seen if you watch boxing matches.
One of the most praise-worthy moments of his life was when he held the WBC cruiserweight title from 2016 to 2017. He also challenged for the undisputed cruiserweight championship in 2018, which also marked the day of his retirement. He paid tribute to Oleksandr Usyk and said that he had been doing this for 20 years, but it was over now. Tony made this announcement right after he lost to Usyk.
At the regional level, Tony was still young when he held the British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight titles between 2010 and 2014, as well as the European cruiserweight title from 2015 to 2016.
Tony: Commentary And Creed
It wasn’t until 2021 that Tony decided to join the UK commentary team for DAZN. Apart from boxing and commentary, Tony also took part in the Channel 4 show SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2020. Recently, he was seen as a contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
Tony is also recognized for his role as the antagonist boxer Ricky Conlan in the famous films Creed and Creed III. Tony, a 3 time ABA heavyweight champion as an amateur, officially announced his retirement from Boxing on 22nd November 2018. He took over his social media handles to break out the news to everyone.
The 41-year-old retired boxer earned a minimum of £2.5m for his first fight with David Haye and the same amount for the rematch, which changed his life. In an interview, he mentioned that he believed a man should go and provide for his family, which he was doing for his family.
He added that he was trying to give them the best he could, although he was surviving on fight-to-fight paychecks. The boxer wasn’t comfortable with it, but he did what he had to, and his paychecks for fighting Haye and Usyk changed his life.
Anthony Lewis Bellew’s Net Worth
According to several reports, Tony has earned himself quite a fortune thanks to his brutal boxing matches and, of course, commentary later on. Tony Bellew, the professional boxer, has a net worth estimated to be around £9.6 million, but it’s not officially confirmed.
But it’s also said that his net worth was expected to rise to £15m after his final fight with Usyk, which made him £4m, but that has never happened since he quit. When asked the real reason behind his sudden decision, Tony revealed that his body couldn’t take it anymore, so he wanted to get out and enjoy the rest of his days as nicely as he could.
I’m A Celebrity: Tony’s Appearance On The Show
On his decision to join I’m A Celebrity, Tony said his wife pushed him to go out and do it. The former boxer also added that his kids are his biggest motivation, and he wants to do something that might remind his kids and give them a chance to say, “My dad did that.”
As a huge man, Tony says he isn’t terrified of much, but he shockingly admitted to being scared of heights and small spaces in the introduction video for the show I’m A Celebrity.
I’m A Celebrity is a reality show in which celebrities live in a jungle while competing with other stars in order to win the game. The show airs on ITvX at 9 p.m. but is also available on Prime Video.
