After Solo Leveling’s success, more manhwa are being adapted into anime now more than ever, and the latest to join the club is Tomb Raider King, which has announced an anime adaptation. Based on the web novel and manhwa by SAN.G, Tomb Raider King is primed for an anime adaptation with elements like dungeons and an exciting regression plotline.
According to a post on X by MangaMoguraRE, an anime adaptation of the manhwa Tomb Raider King is in production and is expected to release in 2026. The announcement was originally made by the creator SAN.G through their official X handle.
At present, no other information has been provided on which animation studio will be taking on the project, but hopefully, the anime will be able to do justice to the manhwa’s spectacular art by 32BS.
Interestingly, just like Solo Leveling, Tomb Raider King’s manhwa is also produced by Redice Studio, whose art is never known to disappoint. Both series feature very similar art styles, character designs, and vibrant color palettes that bring the story to life.
Though nothing has been revealed about what Tomb Raider King’s anime will look like just yet, fans can only hope that the end result will be comparable to the excellent job done by A-1 Pictures with Solo Leveling.
Tomb Raider King: Manhwa’s Rise and Potential as Future Anime Adaptation Flagbearer
Tomb Raider King also features many of the same narrative beats as Solo Leveling, especially in its prologue, where Jooheon, much like Jinwoo, suffers a betrayal that irrevocably shifts his mindset and character. Both encounter a terrifying power that brings them to death’s doorstep, only to be mysteriously given a second chance. Arguably, the only initial difference between the two stories is Jooheon’s regression into the past.
That said, while Jinwoo’s story in Solo Leveling focuses more on him getting stronger and leveling up, Jooheon focuses on finding various relics and conquering tombs.
While he is undoubtedly a typical overpowered main character, Jooheon’s story is also heavily centered on revenge against his former employer, CEO Kwon, whom Jooheon is determined to bring down along with his entire company.
Jooheon’s character is also quite different from Jinwoo’s in that he is cunning, manipulative, and selfish, which may leave fans divided about whether they like him as a protagonist.
Nonetheless, Tomb Raider King holds plenty of potential as an anime, and the fact that so many manhwa are being picked up for anime adaptations lately suggests that manhwa may soon be able to compete on the same stage as manga in terms of receiving anime adaptations.
There are still many more excellent manhwa whose stories are waiting to be told, and Solo Leveling, Tomb Raider King, and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint may be the flagbearers of the era to come.
