The famous golfer, Tom Weiskopf, passed away at 79 after fighting a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom Watson revealed the news of his death via a tweet on Sunday morning. He was diagnosed in December 2020 and took his last breath on 20th August 2022 after struggling for two years. Thomas Daniel Weiskopf, born on 9th November 1942, was an American professional golfer. He was born in Massillon, Ohio, USA, and died in Big Sky, Montana, USA. Tom attended Benedictine High School in Cleveland and then graduated from the Ohio State University. He was married to Laurie Weiskopf. Previously he was married to Jeanne Weiskopf from 1966 to 1999. Tom also had two kids, Eric Weiskopf and Heidi Weiskopf, with his ex-wife Jeanne. In his professional golf career, Tom played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour.

Tom Weiskopf was a great player. He turned professional in 1964 and won several games. His most successful decade was the 1970s. During his career in golf playing, he won 16 PGA Tour titles between 1968 and 1982, including the 1973 Open Championship at Royal Troon. He finished that year remarkably, ranked as the second player in the world according to Mark McCormack’s world golf rankings. Furthermore, Tom was also a four-time runner-up at The Masters. He had a T2 finish at the 1976 U.S. Open and even won the Canadian Open in 1973 and 1975.
The late golfer was also a member of the United States team in the 1973 and 1975 Ryder Cups. Apart from these achievements, he also earned a nickname. He was famously nicknamed “The Towering Inferno” for displays of his temper on the golf course.
Later in 1993, he joined the Senior PGA Tour. In this phase of his golf playing career, Tom won several senior tournaments, including the 1995 U.S. Senior Open. Not only that, but he was also working as a golf analyst for CBS Sports covering the 1981 and 1985-1995 Masters and contributed to ABC Sports and ESPN’s coverage of The Open Championship after 2008.

Today, Tom has at least 40 courses to his credit, including the renowned Monument and Pinnacle Courses at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Loch Lomond, which was also the venue of the Scottish Open from 1995 to 2010.
