Tom Holland Says Marvel Already Has a Long-Term Plan for the Next Spider-Man

Tom Holland may have returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the actor has revealed that Marvel and Sony are already planning for the future of the Spider-Man mantle. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland confirmed that discussions about his eventual successor have been underway for years.

Holland said the creative team has developed a long-term roadmap for how the next Spider-Man will be introduced once his own journey comes to an end.

Holland Wants to Help Pass the Torch

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland explained that the transition has been carefully considered since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s laid out. It’s gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.”

While he did not reveal who will become the next Spider-Man, Holland reiterated his interest in helping introduce the franchise’s future lead.

Although Marvel has not confirmed the identity of Peter Parker’s successor, Holland has previously expressed enthusiasm about bringing Miles Morales into the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with The Associated Press, he said he has a “desire to bring Miles Morales to the screen” and hopes to “shepherd the lucky young kid who gets that job.”

Earlier this year, Holland also told Empire that he would like to help establish the next generation of Spider-Man heroes, whether that is Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or another character. Comparing the opportunity to Robert Downey Jr.’s mentorship within the MCU, Holland said he would be happy to help before “swinging off into the sunset.”

With Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to conclude Sony’s animated trilogy, many fans believe the stage could soon be set for Miles Morales to make his long-awaited live-action debut.
