The upcoming anime film To You in the Beyond has announced a new cast member, with actor Naohito Fujiki joining the project in a supporting role. The announcement was accompanied by a new international key visual, giving fans a fresh look at the film ahead of its theatrical release in Japan this October.
Naohito Fujiki Joins the Voice Cast
The upcoming anime film To You in the Beyond has added Naohito Fujiki to its voice cast. He will play Nishina, a guest character in the film. While details about the role have not yet been revealed, his casting completes an already strong lineup of voice actors.
The cast also includes Hiiro Ishibashi as Kazuki Tsukigase, Anna Nagase as Nanao Akishika, Shimba Tsuchiya as Mikiya Ozaki, and Hiroshi Tamaki as Takatsu.
With the film’s October release approaching, the latest casting announcement gives fans another look at the characters who will bring the story to life.
What Is To You in the Beyond About?
The story follows Kazuki Tsukigase, a high school student who moves to the remote island of Sakijima in search of a fresh start. Soon after arriving, he discovers an unconscious girl near a place known as the Cove of Spiriting Away, which is surrounded by local legends.
The girl has lost her memories and can remember only a small part of her past. After being taken in by Takatsu, she slowly forms a close bond with Kazuki as they spend the summer together.
Blending mystery, drama, and coming-of-age themes, the film explores loss, friendship, and the connections people build during difficult times.
From Award-Winning Novel to Anime Film
To You in the Beyond is based on Akiko Abe’s novel, first published in 2017 under Shueisha’s Orange Bunko label.

The novel won the 22nd Honya Taisho Award, one of Japan’s best-known literary awards chosen by booksellers. In recent years, it has also gained renewed attention through social media, introducing the story to a new generation of readers.
Its growing popularity helped pave the way for the anime film adaptation, which brings the award-winning story to the big screen.
The Creative Team Behind the Film
The film is directed by Junichi Wada, while Sayaka Kuwamura adapted the novel into a screenplay. Character designs are handled by Hechima, who also serves as chief animation director.
Animation is being produced by TMS Entertainment’s Studio 6, with singer-songwriter Tota performing the insert song “Balsam.”
Together, the creative team aims to capture the novel’s emotional story and the peaceful atmosphere of its island setting.
Release Date and What Comes Next
To You in the Beyond is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on October 9, 2026, with Shochiku handling distribution alongside Pony Canyon.
An international release has not yet been announced. However, the release of a new international key visual suggests that more global distribution news could be shared in the future.
With its voice cast now complete and its theatrical debut drawing closer, To You in the Beyond is shaping up to be one of the notable original anime films arriving this fall.
