Netflix’s The Witcher Season 5 has reportedly been pushed from its previously expected 2026 release window to 2027. The fifth season will serve as the final chapter of the live-action series, with Liam Hemsworth returning as Geralt of Rivia alongside Freya Allan’s Ciri and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer.
The reported delay is notable because Season 5 completed filming in 2025 and was produced back-to-back with Season 4. Netflix had previously included the final season among its 2026 programming, while earlier reporting indicated that the extensive post-production process could potentially push the premiere into early 2027.
Why The Witcher Season 5 Could Take Longer to Arrive
Production on the final two seasons was deliberately connected, with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explaining that the creative team approached Seasons 4 and 5 as “one large story.” That decision allowed the production to film the seasons consecutively, but the final installment still requires substantial post-production work before it can premiere.
Recent reporting has increasingly pointed toward a later release, although Netflix has not publicly announced a specific 2027 premiere date. In fact, What’s on Netflix currently lists the season as expected in late 2026, while its earlier coverage also noted that the fifth season was already in post-production.

The final season will continue the story established after Henry Cavill’s departure. Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt beginning with Season 4, while the returning cast includes Allan, Chalotra and Joey Batey as Jaskier.
Season 5 is expected to bring the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga toward its conclusion, making the timing particularly important for fans who have been following Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer since the series debuted in 2019.
For now, Netflix has not officially confirmed a 2027 release date, meaning the reported delay should be treated as an update to the expected window rather than a confirmed premiere announcement. The final season remains one of Netflix’s major upcoming fantasy releases.
