The Whole Nine Yards sticks to realism in terms of its filming locations as it is filmed in the location where it is set. The movie follows our main character, Oz, a dentist in Montréal, who is working to pay off the bills so he can get rid of his wife or divorce her, whom he hates immensely.
When she finds out that their new neighbor is the wanted hitman Jimmy the Tulip, she sends our guy Oz to Chicago to help Yanni, the mob leader, locate Jimmy in order to collect a finder’s fee. Oz goes in order to get his wife away from his back, and his assistant Jill encourages him to have sex while he’s there.
As one of Yanni’s men is waiting for Oz at the hotel, the situation is too serious for Oz to keep quiet about what he knows. In the meantime, Oz’s wife informs Jimmy about Oz in the hopes that Jimmy will murder Oz so she can collect life insurance. Oz finds Jimmy’s wife (Yanni’s prisoner), falls for her, and the betrayals deepen. Jill herself isn’t what she seems.
The Whole Nine Yards Filming Locations
One of the few positive aspects of this movie is that it takes place in Montreal rather than a fictional American metropolis. The whole production of “The Whole Nine Yards” was shot in Canada. Although the USA has been a significant film-producing nation since the early 20th century, Canada has just begun to catch up.
Currently, several cities around the nation are in high demand for filming locations. While the production was totally completed in the state of Illinois in the United States, the Canadian shooting took place across Québec as well as Ontario. But only a small number of cities in those states were used for the crime-comedy’s shooting. Let’s look at all of these The Whole Nine Yards’ filming locations.
Niagara Falls
The crime comedy film had a few scenes that were shot in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The city is well-known for its waterfalls and is a top destination for travelers. It’s interesting to note that popular films like “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “Superman II” included scenes from the well-known falls. Additionally, some shooting for the comedy and drama series “Wonderfalls” took place there.
Chicago
‘The Whole Nine Yards’ was also filmed in Chicago. To be exact, Michigan Avenue was the location for some of the film’s scenes. There are rumors that a few sequences were filmed near and around the renowned Tribune Tower located at 435 North Michigan Avenue. Chicago’s culture is heavily affected by film, theatre, and visual arts due to its location on the shores of Lake Michigan.
A number of well-known films, including “Batman v Superman,” “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Mean Girls,” “Suicide Squad,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Batman Begins,” have been filmed in the city over the years.
Montréal
Montréal served as the primary location for the film’s main production. Scenes from Oz Oseransky’s house were shot at 27 Rue Marcel-Giguère in Blainville, while Jimmy Tudeski’s home is right next door. Several significant scenes in the film were shot at Notre Dame Cathedral, while others were shot at 209 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest to capture Biddle’s Jr. Resto Cabaret Bar sequences.
The scene when Jimmy and Oz talk about how Jimmy came up in Canada was filmed at the Belvédère Kondiaronk. One of Québec’s biggest cities, Montréal boasts a wide range of job opportunities available in a variety of industries. However, since it has become a major hub for film and television production, the entertainment sector has also grown to be a popular career choice for locals.
It has served as a stand-in for European places in a number of films over the years and hosts a number of well-known artists, movies, and cultural events that are very popular.
However, these older films from the last two decades may surprise you because they were filmed in Montreal. Only a few people are aware that The Notebook, everybody’s go-to tearjerker, was mostly filmed here in 2003.
