Sky Ireland, along with AMC+, made a thriller series that has both real-life elements as well as fiction called The Vanishing Triangle. It is a period piece from the 1990s based upon how real women went missing in Ireland during those years.
Starring Allen Leech, India Mullen, Laoise Sweeney, and Aaron Monaghan, we’re taken on a cat-and-mouse game of a daring writer, a couple of cops with more gall than their fellow colleagues, and a trail of missing women. In this series, both law enforcement, as well as the writer, risk their lives to try and find the whereabouts of these missing women.
Plot
In The Vanishing Triangle, Lisa Wallace, an investigative reporter, writes an article about the murder of her mother, which leads to Amy Reynolds going missing. They collaborate in order to find Amy with Detective David Burkely. As more girls go missing, their search takes them all over Ireland.
While they explore every lead, some of them lead to dead ends. But the killer keeps putting Lisa in dangerous situations to torture her mind. David and Lisa discover more about how the Gardaí system has been tainted for a long time as they approach finding the killer.
High-level Gardaí members use David’s secrets against him to hide their tracks. Lisa goes after the killer and finally finds him or her. After all these years, they face off again. To locate the missing girl, she has to face the trauma she went through as a child.
Recap
So far, we’ve seen Lisa Wallace penning a story on how her mom was killed, but the killer comes back after the publication. The killer kidnaps a woman. So Lisa and a cop named David Burkely start digging around; as they connect the dots, they find that the missing woman is Amy Reynolds.
What happens next is that Lisa’s article criticizes the local cops for not doing their job, and that ruffles a few feathers within the local law enforcement. So, David Burkely and fellow cop Detective Brennan choose to pick up on a lead they have, a dude by the name of Mark Bulger.
However, Lisa is not happy with how the wheels of justice are spinning, so she takes it on her own to find the killer, and in doing so, she risks her life to find out what this Mark Bulger guy is all about.
The moment Detective David Burkely tries to get Bulger to confess and have a woman named Teresa give her testimony, Lisa tries to find out whether or not Bulger is a dead-end lead. Then, Susan calls the cops, begging them to tell her what they know after an anonymous call from the cops says they know something about Amy.
What happens next is that Lisa is in a caveat as to who to help: Is it Lisa, is it Mandy? What does she have to do, and what does she have to risk?
