Acorn TV brought back for a fourth run the Neo Noir series, The Sommerdahl Murders. If you’re a fan of police thrillers and are looking for something other than what Dick Wolf has to offer in American primetime television, then I suggest you take a look at the other side of the Atlantic and check out what Danish TV and Acorn have to offer in this series. Faithful to the noir genre of Norse filmmaking, The Sommerdahl Murders season 4 picks up where things left off in the past season, right in the tiny little town of Helsingør, with its coastline and flats as the backdrop for some mysteries that need resolution.
Each episode keeps us stuck to the sofa and trying to binge-watch the whole thing as the show depicts intriguing plots, gory murder investigations, and the personal lives of the detectives that are involved in the crime-solving, all with the level of detail, high-end productions and amazing editing that we can expect from Norse filmmakers, who really go at lengths to deliver export-quality productions year after year.
What Are The Sommerdahl Murders About?
Sommerdahl takes us to the little —yet full of murders and crime-ridden— town of Helsingør, in Denmark, where Detective Constable Inspector Dan Sommerdahl, played by Peter Mygind, and his co-worker and bestie Detective Superintendent Flemming Torp, played by André Babikian, solve the crimes.
Meanwhile, we see how Dan Sommerdahl has a lot of trouble navigating through the woes of his tumultuous personal life, all with the suspense and intensity that the Norse Noir genre knows how to deliver. So, don’t expect your typical story arc from those Dick Wolf shows you’re so accustomed to seeing on American television because if there’s something the Norses like to do, is play with the viewer’s mind a lot, they place fake clues for you to pick up, amaze you with plot twists, and scare you with the use of sound, illumination, scene placement and sometimes, extremely graphic violence.

Introducing The Sommerdahl Murders Season 4 Production Team
For the fourth season of The Sommerdahl Murders, the reins of the director chair have been handed to two experienced Danish directors: Firstly, we have Annika Appelin, and secondly, we have Rumle Hammerich. Hammerich is a well-known figure in the world of Danish cinema, having written and directed award-winning films and TV series such as Young Andersen, which won an International Emmy for best foreign TV film, Borgen, Headhunter, The Eagle, and Taxa. He also directed several episodes of the third and fourth seasons of the successful Danish-Swedish TV series, The Bridge.
Appelin, another skillful director, is no stranger to the Nordic noir genre and is expected to bring her extensive expertise to The Sommerdahl Murders. In the previous season, Hammerich had directed episodes, making him a familiar and capable hand to steer Season 4 in the right direction.
