When is the 2023 Tony Awards?
That is the right question to ask. So, first things first, the Tony Awards, which each year recognize the best plays and musicals performed on Broadway, will take place on Sunday night. The main event, featuring song and dance performances alongside the award presentations, will commence at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcasted on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Prior to that, starting at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, a preshow ceremony will be held to honor various creative achievements, including designs, and can be streamed on Pluto TV.
This year there will be changes from the usual in several ways.
To begin with, the ceremony will be hosted in a fresh venue: the United Palace, a former movie house in Washington Heights, one of the northernmost neighborhoods of Manhattan. The decision to relocate stems from financial considerations, as the rental cost of the United Palace was significantly lower compared to the usual venue of Radio City Music Hall, where the event often takes place.

For the second year in a row, Ariana DeBose will take on the hosting duties of the Broadcast. However, due to the absence of the writers, it is anticipated that she will focus more on showcasing her dancing skills and delivering fewer jokes. Ariana DeBose gained recognition for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” remake, which earned her an Academy Award last year. In 2018, she also received a Tony Award nomination for her role as one of the three actresses portraying Donna Summer in the jukebox musical “Summer.”
As for Tony’s preshow, it will be hosted by the duo Julianne Hough, known for her role in “POTUS,” and Skylar Astin, renowned for his appearance in “Spring Awakening.”
