Netflix has released the final trailer for The Ribbon Hero, the upcoming anime film inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s legendary manga Princess Knight, ahead of its worldwide premiere on August 8. Alongside new footage from the feature, the latest preview introduces five additional voice cast members and offers a deeper look at Sapphire’s emotional journey as she fights to protect a second homeland from destruction.
The newly released trailer expands on the film’s central conflict, showcasing Sapphire’s transformation from a princess who has lost everything into the determined Ribbon Hero. It also highlights the relationships she builds after arriving in Goldland and teases several high-energy action sequences leading into the film’s release. With an accomplished creative team and a story inspired by one of Tezuka’s most influential works, The Ribbon Hero is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s notable anime premieres this summer.
The Ribbon Hero’s final trailer showcases Sapphire’s resolve and introduces new cast members
The latest trailer opens after Sapphire’s kingdom of Silverland has fallen to the devastating calamity known as Nergal. Forced to leave her homeland behind, she eventually reaches Goldland, where she begins forming meaningful connections with the people around her while searching for a new purpose.
That hope is short-lived as Nergal returns, threatening to destroy Goldland just as it did Silverland. Rather than surrendering, Sapphire dons her veil and becomes the Ribbon Hero, determined to fight back against the overwhelming threat. The trailer also introduces the mysterious character Velvet, whose unsettling dialogue hints that there is far more to the story than the battle against Nergal alone.
The preview places strong emphasis on Sapphire’s emotional growth throughout the film. When self-doubt begins to overwhelm her, it is the encouragement and faith of her newfound companions that inspires her to continue fighting. Those moments are balanced with dynamic action scenes that showcase the film’s fluid animation and cinematic scale.
Netflix also confirmed five new voice cast additions. Yoshimasa Hosoya joins the film as Rock, while Mito Tsukino voices Hecate, Yusuke Tezuka plays Chorogy, Lunlun voices Chick, and Debidebi Debiru portrays Tack. The new characters are fellow workers alongside Sapphire at the mining site.
Notably, Mito Tsukino, Lunlun, and Debidebi Debiru are members of the popular VTuber group NIJISANJI, making The Ribbon Hero their first anime voice acting roles.
The feature is directed by Yuki Igarashi, who previously earned recognition for his animation work on the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 ending sequence and later made his directorial debut with Star Wars: Visions – Lop & Ochō. The Ribbon Hero marks his first feature-length film.
The production brings together an experienced creative staff, including original character designer Kei Mochizuki, known for work on Fate/Grand Order and Touken Ranbu. Mai Yoneyama, who contributed to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and LAZARUS, collaborated on the character concepts, while Issei Arakaki serves as animation character designer and Cedric Herold is the film’s art director. Animation is produced by OUTLINE, with TWIN ENGINE handling production.
