A former cast member of Blue Bloods will return in the forthcoming 14th season of the show. This multigenerational police family with a long history in the New York Police Department, the Reagan family, is the focus of this 2010 CBS police procedural drama series.
As members of the Reagan family, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Tom Selleck, and Len Cariou are among the long-running show’s cast members. Other notable actors include Marisa Ramirez and Jennifer Esposito, who left the program in 2012 after just three seasons.
TVLine now confirmed that Jennifer Esposito, who portrayed Detective Jackie Curatola in the previous season of Blue Bloods, will make a return appearance in the next season 14, which is also slated to be the last season of the police procedural drama.
Esposito is anticipated to appear in season 14, episode 2, where she teams up with Danny, her former partner, and Baez to put an end to a serial killer on the rampage.
Why Did Jennifer Esposito Exit Blue Bloods?
When the police procedural show Blue Bloods first aired on CBS, Esposito was a regular cast member. She did a fantastic job portraying Detective Jackie Curatola, winning over a lot of people with the role.
But after a few seasons, Esposito’s character started displaying symptoms of stress and burnout, and she ultimately decided to quit the New York Police Department.
Although Curatola may have been going through burnout on the show, Esposito’s diagnosis of celiac disease sometime in 2012 was the real reason she left Blue Bloods.
Her doctor suggested a shortened work schedule to accommodate her condition due to the immunological disorder. But when CBS didn’t follow through on these plans, they opted to put Esposito on unpaid leave and stop letting her work for other networks.
As a result of these events, the parties were unable to reach an agreement, and CBS subsequently declared that Esposito would not be returning to Blue Bloods to play Curatola. But that was until she just made a comeback for season 13 of Blue Bloods.
Esposito’s confirmed return for Blue Blood’s final season makes for an intriguing watch as it will be interesting to see how she is incorporated into the show once more. Blue Blood debuts on February 16, 2024.
