Jujutsu Kaisen has finally granted Yuji his long-awaited final power-up, which is ingeniously subtle. The latest chapter reveals Yuji’s Domain Expansion, and the hand sign he uses uncovers a surprising Buddhist connection that mirrors many aspects of Yuji’s character and may even hint at the outcome of the final battle.
In Chapter #264, Yuji’s Domain Expansion is depicted as a train station where he and Sukuna are transported. The hand sign Yuji employs to activate his domain is linked to Kṣitigarbha, a bodhisattva renowned for his vow to guide lost souls to enlightenment and liberate suffering souls in hell before attaining enlightenment himself.
This connection closely mirrors Yuji’s initial ideals of wanting to help people and be surrounded by those he has saved before his death, along with his preoccupation with the concept of a proper death. The hand sign and the train station-like appearance of his domain may also suggest that Yuji could be leading Sukuna toward enlightenment in the final stages of their battle.
Yuji’s Domain and Its Mythological Roots: Clues from Kṣitigarbha in Jujutsu Kaisen“
Although the latest chapter does not specify the name of Yuji’s domain, the connection to Kṣitigarbha provides numerous clues and aligns with many elements of Yuji’s character and narrative. For instance, Kṣitigarbha’s name, derived from Sanskrit, translates to “Earth Store” or “Earth Womb.” This could relate to Yuji’s creation as the ultimate vessel by Kenjaku, resembling a perfected version of the Cursed Wombs.
Kṣitigarbha, known as Jizō in Japan, is regarded as the protector and guardian of the souls of children, particularly those of fetuses who were stillborn, aborted, or miscarried. This aspect could gain further significance in Jujutsu Kaisen as more of Sukuna’s backstory is revealed.
Sukuna has previously referred to himself as an unfortunate child and hinted that he consumed his twin in the womb due to starvation, which intriguingly connects his fate with Yuji.
Additionally, Kṣitigarbha is known as the bodhisattva of hell, believed to descend into hell to save damned souls. This bears an interesting connection to Sukuna, who uses the hand sign associated with Enamten, the king of hell, when casting his domain.
This suggests that Yuji might lead Sukuna to true enlightenment, saving his fragmented soul, which was split into multiple pieces in his mummified fingers, and ultimately granting Sukuna a proper death after a millennium.
Yuji and Sukuna’s Path to Enlightenment Hinted at Kitakami Station in Latest Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter
The platform featured in the latest chapter is from Kitakami Station in Iwate, Gege Akutami’s hometown. Although the signboard in the panel shows Line 0, the appearance and layout of the platform, including the chair Sukuna is seated in, more closely resemble Line 12 at Kitakami Station, which is the Tohoku Shinkansen route heading north toward Shin-Aomori.
This could again signify that Yuji may be leading Sukuna toward true enlightenment. The concept of “going north” was first introduced in the notable airport scene of Chapter #236, where Nanami described going north as a new beginning.
This idea is also deeply connected to enlightenment in Buddhism, as Buddha is said to have taken seven steps north on his path to enlightenment. Nanami’s description of being born anew aligns perfectly with this notion.

If this is the case, Sukuna—and possibly Yuji—might soon face the choice of going north and being reborn, represented literally by the train heading north in the upcoming chapters. This could align with the connection to Kṣitigarbha guiding souls to enlightenment.
Latest Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter Sparks Theories of Afterlife or Limbo with Train Station Scene
Many fans have interpreted the train station scene in the latest chapter as either the afterlife or a form of limbo, similar to the airport in Chapter #236, rather than Yuji’s Domain Expansion.
The final page of Chapter #264 mirrors the beginning of Chapter #236, with Yuji and Sukuna positioned exactly as Geto and Gojo were. Sukuna’s resemblance to Yuji and the absence of Yuji’s scars, claws, and red gauntlets further support the notion that this is not a typical Domain Expansion.
However, it seems unlikely for Yuji or Sukuna to have died so suddenly right after Yuji cast his domain. The latest chapter also highlights that Sukuna has regained the ability to use Reverse Cursed Technique after landing two Black Flashes, which contradicts this hypothesis.
Nonetheless, much about Yuji’s Domain Expansion remains unclear, and the upcoming chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen will likely provide the answers.
