The American reality series The Real Housewives Of New York City is back with its fourteenth season of confident, beautiful women with lives as happening as it could get. The show recently put out its Season 14 Episode 5, so let us tell you all about it.
For the first time in the history of this reality series, the producers have replaced the entire cast of the previous season with a brand-new group of women, including Ubah Hassan, Sai De Silva, Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield.
This season seems to be riding on the ultra-successful lives of the cast members, and rightfully so. Sai works as a creative director and a part-time content creator, Hassan models and owns a hot sauce company, Lichy is a successful real estate agent all the while having a home designing and renovation house under her name, and Lyons is known to have worked with J.Crew and now owns LoveSeen.
Taank happens to be a fashion publicist, and lastly, Whitfield works under the title of a brand marketing professional. In the previous episode of this season, Jenna and Erin had shared a conversation discussing what Jenna had heard Jessel say about their trip.
As this conversation was ongoing on one side, we also saw Jessel share a private and vulnerable moment with her husband where the two discussed with each other intimacy issues that the two might be facing in their relationship.
Erin and Ubah were seen working hard at their jobs, with Erin dealing with the renovation work that her company seemed to be handling, and Ubah was in talks with her mentor for business advice for her company.
The Real Housewives Of New York City Season 14 Episode 5: Recap & Review
This new episode was released under the title “Fashionably Absent” and was as dramatic as things could be. We started off the episode with a look into the life of Sai as a content-creating personality. She has over four hundred thousand followers on her social media, and it is not easy to maintain that number.
We saw her working with her brand manager, attorney, and a few more people with made-up titles, who helped her handle not just her followers but also brand deals, sponsorships, and product featuring. It was so interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look into the life of a successful influencer and what their day looks like.
After Erin and Jenna’s conversation in the previous episode, this time, it was time for Erin and Jessel, and it did not go down all that smoothly. The two had a talk that was passive-aggressive enough to make us, the viewers, feel slightly awkward. Jessel confronted Erin about her weird behavior during Sai’s Friendsgiving meetup.
Finally, Erin confessed that she did, in fact, not feel very comfortable around Jessel and that the latter was difficult for Erin to figure out. Their conversation went on for a long, and the two did not hold back anything. They had certain misunderstandings that finally came up to the surface, and it almost got to the point of an actual fight.
The two said a lot of words, but we don’t think anybody actually listened to each other. This “talk” led to nothing and may have soured their relationship even more. And unlike these two, there is Brynn and Sai, who seem to genuinely like each other. The two met up with Erin in a different coffee place to continue discussing Jessel.
The ladies end the conversation soon after, with the conclusion being, “Jessel needs to learn how to take accountability for her words.” The episode also had Jessel launch her fashion consultancy called “The Know,” which some of the girls decided to skip but was attended by Sai, Brynn, Ubah, and, surprise, surprise, Erin!
The episode ended with Erin and Jessel quietly talking, Erin apologizing to Jessel for offending her, though that was not her intention at all. Erin just wanted to move on and be normal, and the rest of the girlies seemed to agree with her.
Ending Explained
The episode started off with some good energy and was even interesting when we got a glimpse into Sai’s side hustle, but the way it got so dramatic with the entry of Erin and Jessel was slightly unbearable.
You have to agree that Jessel could have handled the situation with some more class, crying over being called a princess, and that, too, not in a mean way, was a bit over the top. She could have let go of the past and at least tried to be friendly toward Erin, who was clearly trying hard to be nice.
While we understand that Jessel was defensive because she has had to work extremely hard to get where she is, even with the fact that she is the first-ever South Asian on the show, it felt like she was displacing her anger on Erin when all later wanted to do was resolve the misunderstandings to move on with their lives.
Apart from Jessel being slightly childish, the entire episode was hilarious, with the rest of the girls growing even closer than before. It ended on a sophisticated note with Erin, once again, being the better person, putting her hand out toward Jessel once more to apologize, wrap the drama up, and finally, move on.
