The entertaining and adventure-filled show “The Mysterious Benedict Society” premieres this week! The year-long wait since it was announced to be in the making is now finally over. After the first season aired its last episode in August 2021, the ending left us on a cliffhanger, with Dr. Curtain saw scheming another evil plan.
The show’s story is taken from a book authored by Trenton Lee Stewart. It was adopted into a series by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi and aired in June 2021. The show stars Tony Hale as Mr. Nicholas Benedict and also as his evil twin brother Mr. Curtain, whose real name is Nathaniel Benedict.
With the second installment to the show premiering this week, we will be able to see more of the witty and smart children go on an adventure to save the world from Dr. Curtain’s plans. It could be possible that each season is an adaptation of each sequel of the book, meaning we might still have two more seasons of the show in the bag.
The Mysterious Benedict Society: Season 2’s Main Characters
The second season will have mostly the same characters as the first one, but this time we’ll be focusing more on Dr. Curtain’s army and subordinates. We can expect to see many new characters being introduced to us in this season.
Mr. Benedict, Mr. Curtain – Tony Hale
Mr. Benedict is an intelligent but eccentric head of what he claims is the “Mysterious Benedict society.” In the first season, we see him as the mastermind behind the tests the children were subjected to, which were in hopes of recruiting a strong-minded and smart lot that would help him in his quest to protect the world. He also suffers from Narcolepsy, which causes him to faint whenever he feels an overpowering emotion like laughter.
The other character Tony Hale plays is Mr. Curtain. Curtain is the antagonist of the series and is Mr. Benedict’s long-lost brother. In one of the previous episodes, we are shown that Mr. Benedict and Mr. Curtain are both in an orphanage, but only Mr. Benedict gets adopted. On the other hand, Curtain spends a hard and unforgiving life, causing him to be the way he is now. Just like his brother, he suffers from Narcolepsy, but being angry is his weakness and causes him to faint.
Reynie Muldoon – Mystic Inscho
Though he looks like a normal average boy, Reynie is much sharper and more observant than anyone his age. He used to live in the Stonetown Orphanage. He was tutored by Miss Perumal, who was shown as the person who urged Reynie to take part in the competition by the Boatwright Academy. Reynie is adopted by her at the end of the first season.
George Washington (Sticky) – Seth Carr
George has the strongest memory of all. He can remember anything he sees, even if it is for a really short time. He ran away from home when his parents kept pushing him into Random competitions due to his intelligence, but by the last episode of season 1, he went back to his parents.
Kate Wetherall – Emmy DeOliviera
Kate is deft and athletic. She is often seen carrying a red bucket around her waist, which she claims contains every essential item that she could need. She started living in the circus after her mom’s death. We are later revealed that it was Milligan (Guard hired by Mr. Benedict) who was Kate’s Father all along.
Constance Contraire – Marta Kessler
Constance is the youngest, being just three years old. But she is not the kind to be underestimated, as her high intelligence and brutal nature, combined with her stubbornness, make her one of the most loved characters in the show. She is adopted by Mr. Benedict in the last episode.
The Mysterious Benedict Society: Season 1 Recap
The previous season dealt with the circumstances that led the children to become a part of the Mysterious Benedict society. Once the team had been assembled by Mr. Benedict after a series of tests, they were sent out on a mission to Nomansan Island.
On the island, the children mix with other students of L.I.V.E. (Learning Institute for Veritas and Enlightenment). By infiltrating the enemy grounds, the children help Mr. Benedict in ridding the world of anxiety caused by subliminal messages that Mr. Curtain, head of L.I.V.E., was transmitting. The group succeeds in defeating Mr. Curtain and his machinations, bringing temporary peace to the land.
