Prime Video has revealed the first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, confirming that the next chapter of the fantasy epic will premiere on November 11, 2026. The announcement came during the show’s highly anticipated San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Hall H panel, where more than 6,500 fans gathered for exclusive reveals from the cast and creative team. Alongside the trailer, Prime Video confirmed several new cast members, revealed Simon Pegg’s unexpected role, and teased major developments in Sauron’s rise to power.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman, and newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower. The discussion, moderated by Benjamin Walker, offered fans a closer look at Season 3 while delivering several surprises that expand the mythology of Middle-earth’s Second Age.
Season 3 teaser previews Sauron’s war and introduces major new characters
The newly released teaser confirms that Season 3 takes place five years after the fall of Eregion, with Middle-earth engulfed in open war. Sauron’s armies continue conquering kingdom after kingdom as the Dark Lord focuses on forging the One Ring, a weapon capable of bringing all of Middle-earth under his control.
According to the official synopsis, only a handful of strongholds remain standing against Sauron’s advance. Khazad-dûm, now sealed beneath the mountains, and the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, protected by the Three Rings, become humanity’s final line of defense. Meanwhile, inside the towering fortress of Barad-dûr, Sauron relentlessly pursues the power needed to secure complete domination.
Prime Video also confirmed several new characters joining the expanding cast. Eddie Marsan will portray Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. Andrew Richardson joins as Anarion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur. Adam Young plays Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc whose true nature remains unclear.
These additions join previously announced newcomers Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling, a character with deep connections to Rhûn.
Simon Pegg voices the Balrog as Nazgnagôl make incredible SDCC appearance
One of the panel’s biggest surprises came during an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing Season 3’s creatures. Fans learned that the Balrog will speak for the first time in the series, with acclaimed actor Simon Pegg providing the creature’s voice.
The presentation also highlighted several other creatures appearing this season, including Fell-beasts, massive Mûmakil, and expanding Orc armies, emphasizing the larger scale of the conflict compared to previous seasons.
Hall H attendees also witnessed an unexpected live interruption when four armored Nazgnagôl entered the stage. Introduced as Sauron’s ring-servants during the Second Age, these ominous figures serve as predecessors to the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths, known from The Lord of the Rings. Their appearance reinforced the increasingly dark tone showcased throughout the new teaser.
Premiere schedule and what fans can expect
Unlike previous seasons, The Rings of Power Season 3 will launch with its first four episodes on November 11, 2026. Episodes 5 and 6 will arrive on November 18, followed by the final two episodes on November 25, completing the eight-episode season across three weekly releases.
The series continues adapting the legendary events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, chronicling the forging of the Rings of Power and Sauron’s rise long before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. As the war spreads across Middle-earth, Dwarves, Elves, Men, and Wizards must overcome long-standing divisions and unite against a common enemy before the One Ring is completed.
Prime Video also highlighted the series’ continued global success. The Rings of Power has attracted more than 185 million viewers worldwide, with Season One remaining the biggest television premiere in Prime Video history. Season Two became one of the platform’s five most-watched returning seasons and reached No. 1 on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart, reinforcing the fantasy drama’s status as one of Prime Video’s flagship original productions.
