It’s not going to be a surprise that fans of the popular dystopian franchise, The Handmaid’s Tale, are buzzing with excitement for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 4, which will be out soon. Having followed the series and the main character June for five seasons, it is natural that they would want to be there for the rest of it. The series is filled with themes that raise questions about social classes, gender inequity, and authoritarian governments. It follows the age-old pattern in dystopias, the story of the one who will lead the revolution. The series became popular because of its dark themes and thought-provoking story settings.
The premise of the series is that because of environmental pollution and other things, fertility rates have become very low. A civil war breaks out that leads to the victory of Gilead. Gilead forms an administration that sets us far back. Women are treated as a commodity and split into classes.
Women who are fertile are sent into houses of the elite rich people where the men perform a sexual ritual in the presence of their barren wives to bear a child. The story is based on the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, which highlights the dark reaches of dystopia with respect to women. It has spanned over five seasons, delving into detail about how that society is structured and functions.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5: Recap
Before we jump into what The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 4 has to offer, let’s take a long look at the series so far. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 debuted on-screen on 14 September 2022. After the riveting turn of events in Season 4, Season 5 begins with the aftermath of Fred’s murder.
June is still actively looking for her daughter Hannah. She meets up with several of her old friends and comes to know that some of them have gone back to Gilead to fight back, including Emily. Unable to hold on to her emotions, June has a breakdown and confesses to a police officer that she is the one who murdered Fred. However, since the crime occurred outside their jurisdiction, she is let go.
Gilead’s influence is panning across to Canada, and Serena was fast losing her status. As of Episode 3, titled “Border”, June and Moira join a rebel outpost. Serena, now a pregnant widow, has to fight to keep her status and restore it. She keeps failing to understand that the structure she helped create was meant to hate her, including all the women. Moreover, Janine did not die, and she pulled through. Fans were also glad to know that Nick was still in love with June, although he now bore the responsibility to his wife, Rose. Fans are itching to see a proper encounter between Serena and June, whose rivalry has been steaming the screens for the last four seasons. They are sure that it will be a great treat!
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5: Preview
Seeing the fast-paced action sequences that were littered along the last episode, fans are hyped for the release of the next episode. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 4 is titled “Dear Offred”. The title seems to indicate that viewers might get an opportunity to see a letter dedicated to Offred. It is hinted that June will be struggling to resist going back to Gilead for revenge and that Serena will be settling into her new surroundings in Toronto.
Since the two characters are so close to each other, fans are soon expecting a showdown between them. But whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. And while these things are happening in Canada, strange things are happening in Gilead. Lydia has a suggestion for Lawrence that takes him by surprise, and it has something to do with Janine.
This season is supposed to have a total of 10 episodes, and this will be the 4th. Maybe in this episode, there will be some more limelight in search of Hannah. Fans are also expecting that there will be more political conspiracies at play. Serena’s interaction with Lawrence and Mark is bound to have more consequences on the way. Since she still hasn’t understood her place in Gilead or how welcome she is there, it remains to be seen if further episodes will enhance her understanding somehow. Fans are also wary of whether this season will be the end of the series because there are so many unresolved issues here.
