ABC’s popular medical drama, The Good Doctor, will be ending after 7 seasons. The cast is getting ready to bid farewell. A fan bumped into actors Freddie Highmore, Will Yun Lee, Bria Henderson, and others during the second-to-last week of filming.
According to a Twitter user, @chefbk11, the cast has just one more week left to finish telling the story of Dr. Shaun Murphy and the other doctors at San Jose Bonaventure Hospital.
The Good Doctor first aired in 2017, starring Freddie Highmore from Bates Motel as Dr. Shaun Murphy. He is a talented surgical resident with autism. The show has been very successful, especially in the Monday 10 PM time slot for Season 6.
That’s likely why the executive producers and showrunners, David Shore, Liz Fieldman, and Erin Gunn, decided that Season 7 would be the right time to end the show, at its peak!
Has The Filming Ended For The Finale Season?
The last season of the show started on February 20, 2024, with the latest episode focusing on Shaun and Lea trying to handle being parents while dealing with their own lives. Season 7 of The Good Doctor will have 10 episodes in total, and the next one, called “Who At Peace,” will air on April 2, 2024.
The season kicked off with Shaun and Lea adjusting to being parents after Danny leaves the hospital to spend more time with his family. Shaun’s relationship with Dr. Glassman is still rocky, and the nurses at San Jose Bonaventure are getting ready to form a union as Dr. Andrews steps down to support them.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Highmore discussed how The Good Doctor has influenced people’s views on autism. He talked about the changes his character has gone through since the first episode, emphasizing how the cast and crew were careful in portraying Shaun’s autism and Savant syndrome.
Highmore also talked about his belief in the show’s main storyline, saying, “I always hoped that the show would be seen as more than just entertainment and would address important issues and themes.”
For its last season, The Good Doctor has added Kayla Kromer, an actress with autism spectrum disorder, to play Charlie Lukaitis, a medical student with ASD who was inspired by Shaun Murphy to pursue medicine.
The show’s creator, Friedman, says Season 7 draws inspiration from real-life experiences, including her own and others on the staff who balanced parenthood with work. Despite some delays, filming for the final season is wrapping up, and fans can expect to see the culmination of the series soon.
