Nexon’s The First Descendant is expanding its endgame experience with the introduction of Void Intercept Battle: Extreme (Beta), arriving as part of the July 15 update. The new mode combines Hard Void Intercept and Void Abyss Intercept into a single activity while giving players more control over the difficulty through a new Critical Point system.

According to the latest Dev Note Vol. 27, the beta is intended to help the developers fine-tune the mode before its full release in Season 4. During this testing period, Nexon will continue adjusting the balance of Critical Points over roughly a month based on player performance and feedback.

Extreme mode lets players customize the challenge

To access Void Intercept Battle: Extreme, players must first defeat each Void Intercept Colossus. After reaching the required Mastery Rank and clearing all normal Colossi in Extreme, they’ll unlock Critical Point Breakthrough, allowing them to activate various modifiers before entering battle.

Critical Points increase the challenge by applying effects such as reduced shields or defense, stronger Colossus attacks, movement speed penalties, and damage when using the grappling hook. In return, higher Critical Point values improve farming efficiency, letting players decide how much risk they want to take for better rewards.

Completing Extreme battles rewards Quality Certified ETA Vouchers, a new currency that can be exchanged for limited items in a season-exclusive shop.

Alongside the beta, Nexon will introduce a leaderboard that ranks players based on the highest Critical Point value they successfully complete rather than completion speed. Players who push the most difficult settings will earn various leaderboard rewards before the mode officially launches in Season 4.

While Void Intercept Battle: Extreme serves as the centerpiece of the July 15 update, the patch also includes balance adjustments for Serena, Ines, and Blair, weapon improvements, Onslaught Mode Level 4, quality-of-life enhancements, and several summer events. However, the new endgame beta is expected to be the biggest addition for experienced players looking for a tougher challenge and more rewarding progression.
