The Eternal Fool's Words of Wisdom still 2

Fans of fantasy anime have a new title to look forward to in 2027. The Eternal Fool’s Words of Wisdom: A Pawsitively Fantastic Adventure has officially been scheduled to premiere in January 2027, with Crunchyroll confirming that it will stream the series internationally. Alongside the release window announcement, the production team also revealed the anime’s first teaser trailer, introduced its two main characters, and revealed the lead voice cast.

Based on the light novel by Hifumi, the upcoming TV anime follows the unusual journey of an immortal mage and his equally long-lived canine companion as they travel through a fantasy world filled with magic, humor, and unexpected adventures.

The announcement also coincides with the launch of the anime’s official website, where future updates about the series will be shared. With an experienced production team and a story that blends comedy with fantasy, the adaptation is already drawing attention from light novel and manga readers ahead of its 2027 debut.

Teaser Trailer Introduces Asley and Pochi’s Unique Dynamic

The newly released teaser trailer offers fans their first animated look at the central duo, Asley and Pochi, highlighting the lighthearted chemistry that defines the series. Rather than focusing solely on action, the preview emphasizes the playful conversations between the immortal mage and his loyal familiar, setting the tone for a fantasy adventure driven by character interactions.

Leading the cast is Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Asley, a mage who has spent more than 5,000 years researching magic after accidentally becoming immortal through the creation of the “Eternity Elixir.” Although regarded as one of the most powerful mages in existence, Asley is known for his eccentric personality, endless curiosity, and unexpectedly caring nature.

Speaking about the role, Toyonaga said:

“I’m Toshiyuki Toyonaga, and I will be voicing Asley. Thanks to a bit of a fluke, he has become a highly unique existence—living for over 5,000 years—making him a complete outlier to the common sense of this fantasy world.”

He added that the anime balances comedy with an easygoing atmosphere.

“Personally, while I think it’s a lot of fun to sit down and completely immerse yourself in the show, it’s also a series you can just kick back, relax, and easily enjoy. It has a nostalgic charm reminiscent of the Showa and Heisei eras, which paradoxically makes the world feel incredibly fresh.”

Joining him is Yoko Hikasa as Pochi, Asley’s faithful familiar who has also attained immortality and possesses exceptional combat abilities despite maintaining a cheerful, playful personality.

Hikasa revealed that the staff described the relationship between the two characters as a “married comedy duo” during auditions.

“Since then, I’ve been entirely focused on the breathing room between them, our back-and-forth banter, and bringing out that relaxed, effortless chemistry right in the moment.”

She also shared her hopes for Pochi’s portrayal, saying:

“My goal is for Pochi to feel like a natural, comforting presence that just belongs there—the very definition of peace of mind. Plus, I’m going to completely charm everyone’s socks off with how adorable Pochi is!!”

A Timeless Fantasy Story With Comedy at Its Core

The anime adapts Hifumi’s fantasy novel series, which tells the story of Asley after he accidentally creates the divine Eternity Elixir, granting himself eternal life. With limitless time on his hands, he spends five millennia mastering ancient magic and forgotten spells, eventually becoming one of the world’s greatest mages.

Wanting to experience more than endless research inside a dungeon, Asley sets out on a journey alongside Pochi, his 800-year-old canine companion. What begins as a peaceful adventure soon changes after a simple act of kindness sends the pair into an unpredictable series of events. Despite being incredibly powerful, the duo’s constant misunderstandings and mismatched personalities create much of the series’ humor.

The production is directed by Keisuke Onishi, with Kurasumi Sunayama handling the series composition and scripts. Character designs are provided by Yumiko Mizuno, while Studio Elle is producing the animation. The music will be composed by Yuri Habuka, with Lantis overseeing music production.

The source material has already built a substantial following. The original light novel series currently spans 14 volumes, while the manga adaptation has released 13 volumes, giving the anime plenty of material to adapt in future seasons.

With international streaming already secured through Crunchyroll and the first teaser now available, The Eternal Fool’s Words of Wisdom: A Pawsitively Fantastic Adventure is positioning itself as one of the fantasy anime titles to watch when it premieres in January 2027.
