In the previous chapter of The Duke’s Dark Lady, Juwell crosses paths with Duchess Marriot and Saintess Flanders, the people who had abused her when she was living as Estella. Juwell asks Rishak to leave and has a private meeting with Duchess Marriot, where she ends up humiliating her. Juwell tells Marriot to lick the parfait she dropped on the floor, who actually gets on the floor but is smugly stopped by Juwell. Later, Juwell meets with Saintess Flanders, who apologizes to Flanders for only showing her bad things.

Flanders tells Juwell that as an Emerald of Blessing, she only hopes that things get better as soon as possible. They chat for a while, and Flanders asks Juwell if she has any intentions of returning back to the temple. Flanders tries to flatter Juwell by saying that her activity as a Saint greatly impressed her, but Juwell sees right through it.
