A murder mystery like no other, The Crimson Rivers, created by Jean Christophe Grange, is back with another thrilling episode this week. Based on a book of a similar title, the story revolves around Commissioner Pierre and his lieutenant Camille Delaunay as they set out on a mission to uncover the truth behind a series of bizarre murders.
Jean Christophe’s book had such a chilling plot that it was adapted as a movie in 2015, before the release of the series. The movie follows a similar but not completely the same plot. As the series is created by the writer, there have been several changes from the original plot, Though the overall theme remains the same.
The Crimson Rivers was first aired in September of 2018 in Western Switzerland. Later on, it was aired in the rest of France and Belgium. Fun fact, the actor who plays the role of Pierre Niemans was a policeman in real life as well. The role of Camille Delaunay is played by the award-winning actress, Erika Sainte. With such talented actors, this series is sure to suit your taste if you’re into mysteries with a darker theme.
The Crimson Rivers: The Plot So Far
When a bus driver, Jacques, was driving on a route with many passengers inside, he realized that something was wrong with the bus. He gets off to get a better look, only to find a harrow that had punctured the tires of the bus. Just as he was examining the tires, someone came from the dark and slashed his thighs deeply.
Shocked, he looks down to see his thighs, and his eyes move towards the path, and he realizes that the bus has stopped on a railway track. He tries to go back inside, but it’s too late as a train just smashes the bus completely.
This causes panic within the town, and Commissioner Pierre and his Lieutenant, who is almost like his own daughter, are called to investigate the occurrence. As their case begins, they come across much more deaths, but these deaths have something in common. They are all people who have committed crimes in the past.
The pair are then called to the Fine arts Academy in Malpas to come and take a look at a gruesome murder. A Young adult, Presumably a student of the academy had been hung up on the wall near a painting that was painted by their blood. The victim’s body was completely bloodless.
The Crimson Rivers Season 4 Episode 3: Recap
The last episode premiered on Monday, October 3rd, 2022. It was titled “ La dernière vague” meaning The Last Wave. As Pierre and Camille question everyone in the building regarding the victims, they suspect that Ariane Maubert, the teacher that taught all those students.
What was creepy about her was that she had an alter ego known as Lilith, that created an art movement called Anima Obscura (Roughly translates to the dark soul) that aimed to produce art with a darker theme representing the soul. She also tried her best to make the art institute a place where such art was encouraged the most.
The students admit that Ariane forces her students to do their best in this art form, causing Pierre and Camille to think she might be the reason behind the gruesome murder.

The Crimson Rivers Season 4 Episode 4: Spoilers
Camille tries to uncover the secrets about Ariane, and what she finds shocks her. There is a much more complex and darker side to “Lilith”. Darker than her support for a macabre art form. Another student is murdered when the duo tries to get to know the academy more. This student, too, dies in the way the previous one had, with a painting of their blood.
