Despite her seeming apathy to Kounen’s death, she shares with the other group members some insightful observations regarding the risks associated with excessive alcohol intake.

Jinshi thanks Maomao for her assistance by giving her a gourd full of vodka. A woman drowns as the program comes to an end. Maomao receives instructions from her “apothecary master” not to inspect the body, even if she and the palace doctor are aware.
She considers using human bodies as possible ingredients in medications after an incident with her father in which he foresaw her propensity to steal from cemeteries if she handled the deceased. Consequently, she muses over the human body as a possible drug ingredient and remembers an incident involving her father, who predicts that if she works with the dead, she will tend grave theft. In Jinshi’s room, the three talk about the drowning.
He goes into philosophical thoughts on death and its connection to fate, not sure if Maomao’s death was a suicide or a kill. When Jinshi asks about the unusual circumstances that nearly led to him hurting her, she is perplexed.
After leaving, Maomao discusses the possibilities regarding the maid’s potential involvement in the incident that caused harm, her obvious suicide, and the case’s conclusion following the discovery of her suicide note.
Gaoshun uncovers that Fengming, Lady Ah-Duo’s chief lady-in-waiting at The Garnet Pavilion, is responsible for the event, including the burnt arm as part of a past claim. Jinshi takes off the scene with a part on her mind and a suggestion that there may be more requests.
