Star Wars has grown a lot since the original movies, with many new movies and TV shows being made. They cover all sorts of genres, from action to political dramas and even shows for kids.
While Andor was one of the more serious Star Wars shows, The Acolyte might try to be even more grown-up.
After waiting for a long time, the show is almost here, and we’ve got a better look at the first live-action Star Wars series set in the High Republic era.
This show is something to be excited about, especially if you like Star Wars with a more serious tone. Now that The Acolyte has started filming, here’s what we know about it so far.
The Acolyte Release Date
The Acolyte will premiere on June 4, 2024. This comes four months after the Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, the previous live-action Star Wars series, aired on streaming.
The first two episodes of The Acolyte will be available on June 4, with the remaining episodes released weekly. The series will debut four years after it was initially reported to be in development.
Where To Watch
The Acolyte will be available on Disney+, like all Star Wars shows. Luckily, Disney+ is now in over 140 countries, so fans from all around the world can watch their favorite Star Wars stuff.
This will be the sixth live-action Star Wars series on Disney+, following The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka.
Cast of The Acolyte
One of the big stars in the cast is Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be playing Indora, a Jedi. The main character, Mae, will be played by Amandla Stenberg. Mae is a former student of a Jedi, and the show will focus on her story.
The two main male leads are Lee Jung-jae as Jedi Master Sol and Manny Jacinto as Qimir, a former smuggler.
While we don’t know much about Jacinto’s character yet, the actor mentioned that he won’t be using a lightsaber.
The show has actors and actresses of different ages, like Dafne Keen playing a young Jedi named Jecki Lon and Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya. Turner-Smith shared an interesting detail about her character with Collider.
Completing the cast, we have Rebecca Henderson playing the popular character Vernestra Rwoh, Charlie Barnett as the Jedi Yord Fandar, and Joonas Suotamo as the Wookie Jedi master Kelnacca.
Margarita Levieva and Dean-Charles Chapman are also part of the cast, but their roles haven’t been revealed yet.
Plot
This show explores a new time in the Star Wars universe called the High Republic era, which hasn’t been shown before in Disney’s version of Star Wars.
It takes place a hundred years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, so characters like Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi aren’t even born yet.
According to an interview, creator Leslye Headland said that Vernestra Woh is the only character from the Star Wars High Republic books who will be in the show. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see more characters in future seasons.
