Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ comic rock group Tenacious D has announced plans for an arena tour of the UK and Ireland later this year. This tour, jokingly dubbed the “Spicy Meatball Tour,” is a stop on their upcoming spring 2019 European tour.
Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Luxembourg will all host concerts, which will take place on April 29, April 30, and May 1, respectively.
Tenacious D will travel to Dublin after their earlier visits to give a headlining concert at the 3Arena on May 5. Additional performances are scheduled for their current tour in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham, and Brighton between May 7 and May 13.
It’s not a joke; Tenacious D is the best band in the world, and on the ‘Spicy Meatball Tour,’ they are giving performances at the pinnacle of their musical talent, claims a statement from an “anonymous rock historian” in a press release.
They are better than The Beatles, the Stones, and even Taylor Swift, according to the statement that follows. They also have pyrotechnics! Don’t miss up the chance to try this incredible ‘spicy meatball’ – it’s totally D-licious!”
This Friday, October 6, at 10 a.m. BST, the general public can purchase tickets for the tour. You can get tickets (for the UK/Ireland) here. As an alternative, supporters can take part in a pre-sale that is now going on. You can enter the password “SPICY” to gain access to the pre-sale.
Who is Tenacious D?
A comedy rock duo named Tenacious D was founded in 1994 and is from Los Angeles, California. Actors Kyle Gass and Jack Black, who were a part of The Actors’ Gang theater company at the time, founded it. The phrase “tenacious defense,” which NBA basketball sportscasters Walt Frazier and Marv Albert frequently used, is whence the name “Tenacious D” originates.
The team produced a three-episode TV series that aired on HBO between 1997 and 2000 before releasing their debut album, “Tenacious D,” in 2001. After meeting David Cross in the Los Angeles music scene, they created this series, with Black also making appearances on episodes of “Mr.
Show with Bob and David.” As a result of their friendship with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters and Tenacious D were able to work together.
The pair became well-known by serving as the opening act for well-known rock groups, including Weezer, Pearl Jam, Tool, and Beck in the late 1990s.
Tenacious D’s first record deal
They signed a deal with Epic Records in 2000, and the following year, they released their debut record, “Tenacious D.” A full band, including Dave Grohl on drums, played on this album. From this album, their song “Tribute” gained enormous popularity, particularly in the UK, Sweden, Ireland, and Australia.
They released “The Complete Master Works,” their first live concert DVD, in 2003, and it won gold and platinum accolades from the RIAA.
They appeared in “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,” a movie they produced and New Line Cinema released in November 2006. The band’s second album, “The Pick of Destiny,” which serves as the film’s soundtrack, was made available through Epic Records.
The movie had a $20 million production budget, but it only grossed $13.9 million at the box office, and it received unfavorable reviews from reviewers.
Strangely, the band was able to sell out venues during their second tour despite the fact that the movie didn’t do well at the box office, with a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York drawing close to a full house.
The band’s third album, “Rize of the Fenix,” was released on May 15, 2012, by Columbia Records after a few years punctuated by infrequent festival outings and special performances. This CD made light-hearted allusions to the commercial failure of “The Pick of Destiny.”
