This past Tuesday, the official X account, formerly known as Twitter, for the live-action adaptation of Akane Shimizu’s “Cells at Work!” manga surprised fans with an early teaser trailer.

This sneak peek not only revealed the film’s main cast but also announced its highly anticipated December premiere.

Mei Nagano, celebrated for her roles in live-action adaptations like My Broken Mariko and Peach Girl, takes the lead as Red Blood Cell, while Takeru Sato, known for his performances in Rurouni Kenshin and Ajin, steps into the role of White Blood Cell.

Directed by Hideki Takeuchi and with a script penned by Yūichi Tokunaga, the live-action film is being distributed by Warner Bros.

Japan. The manga, originally launched by Shimizu in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in March 2015, has charmed the audiences with its unique portrayal of the human body’s inner workings.

Kodansha USA Publishing has been instrumental in bringing the manga to English-speaking readers, further expanding its reach and popularity.

The Cells at Work! franchise has seen widespread success, with a television anime adaptation premiering in July 2018 and a second season airing in January 2021, along with the spinoff Cells at Work! Code Black.

Kodansha USA Publishing has also brought various spinoff manga titles to English readers, including Cells at Work: Bacteria!, Cells at Work!: Neo Bacteria!, and Cells at Work! White Brigade, among others.
