‘Surviving The Game as a Barbarian’ follows the life story of Hansoo. Hansoo has liked games ever since he was young. He was always in the hospital, so he naturally was also always playing games. Games became a major part of his life. But it is a given that you’ll grow tired of something if you do it for too long.
One day, it was just not as fun as the old days to play games anymore. It did not matter which genre of the game he played. The issue was that every game that came out each year was completely shit. The story and worldbuilding were all similar and stereotypical, and there was no depth to the system.
That is when Hansoo discovered the game, ‘Dungeon And Stone’. Its genre was RPG Indie Game. 2D pixel graphics were hard to come by in those days. The game was free, but one thing that bothered Hansoo was that the game was all in English. He gives it a try, nevertheless.
Soon enough, he became obsessed with ‘Dungeon And Stone’. The game had several charms that could either be considered unique or absolutely shitty. First of all, an NPC teammate was required in the gameplay. And when you die, you have to start all over.
At first, it was fun, and later, Hansoo was just too stubborn in trying to beat the game. It was such a failed game that there were no tutorials, neither in Korean nor English.
From when Hansoo started the game in the hospital, to when he was drafted to be a public service worker, and then until he was released, to when he went back to university, graduated, went to interviews, got accepted into a company, and to when he was going to and from work, he always continued to play ‘Dungeon And Stone’.
Previously on Surviving The Game as a Barbarian: Recap
Nine years passed, and just when he was about to enter the Boss Room, the system asked him if he wanted to continue and he might never come back. And that was why he was slow to catch on.
A strong ray of light poured out, and with a pain that burned through Hansoo’s body, he lost consciousness. And when he opened his eyes again, he was faced with an unbelievable situation.
Torches instead of LED lights, muscly barbarians wherever he looked. And some weird man giving a speech. Young warriors pick their weapons and are acknowledged as a warrior. The game began when he chose ‘Barbarian’ as his character.
People like him, who came into the game, were called ‘Evil Spirits’. And if anyone finds out, he will die. It could have been his head rolling on the ground, but he chooses to go ahead and fight and live a whole new life as a Barbarian by fulfilling all the tasks that he will face as he moves forward in the game.
Previously on Surviving The Game as a Barbarian, we also saw that Hansoo had quickly understood how the magic worked. He also read about what became today’s labyrinth. The early history of this world was pretty similar to the game prologue.
