Get ready for an amazing pre-game show at the Super Bowl LVIII next month! The NFL just told us that Post Malone will be singing “America the Beautiful,” Reba McEntire will sing the national anthem, and Andra Day will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
It’s all happening at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, February 11.
Emmy-winning musical director Adam Blackstone will handle the arrangements for both performances. But that’s not all – there will also be American Sign Language performances during the pre-game and the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show.
What will be in Super Bowl LVIII?
Daniel Durant, who you might remember from the Oscar-winning movie CODA, will sign the national anthem, Anjel Piñero will sign “America the Beautiful,” and Shaheem Sanchez will sign “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” It’s going to be an awesome show for everyone to enjoy!
Before the Super Bowl, it was announced that Usher, the pop star, would be the main act for the halftime show. The show is produced by DPS and executive-produced by Roc Nation and Jesse Collins. Usher mentioned that for his 13-minute set, he would draw on his past experience, especially recalling his appearance during the Black Eyed Peas’ show in 2011, where he descended from the ceiling for his hit single “OMG.”
Usher, who is 45 years old, advised not to take these moments for granted because there are only 13 minutes to perform. He said, “The hardest part is trying to figure out how to squeeze it all in when you actually have a large catalogue, or a lot of records people celebrate and love.” He’s also tying in his performance with the release of his new album, Coming Home.
What else is Usher bringing?
Usher sees his chances to perform music as part of “God’s plan to entertain the world.” Besides his music, he also wants to bring attention to early Type 1 diabetes screening through The 1 Pledge movement, which started on January 17.
One of his kids, from his previous marriage with Tameka Foster, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of six in 2014. Usher, in partnership with healthcare company Sanofi, wants to raise awareness about this through the campaign. He mentioned, “Had I known about this opportunity early, I would feel better.” He highlighted the challenges families face, like finding the right doctors and figuring out how to manage blood glucose levels, saying, “It’s not just a journey for the child. It’s a journey for the entire family.”
Last year, the Super Bowl halftime show was led by Rihanna, who shared the news of expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky during the live show.
What is Super Bowl LVIII?
Super Bowl LVIII is the next big American football game for the 2023 NFL season. It’s set to happen on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. This is a special one because it’s the first time a Super Bowl will be held in Nevada. It continues the trend of having the game in the Western United States, following Los Angeles, California in 2022 and Glendale, Arizona in 2023.
CBS will show the game on TV, and you can also watch it on Paramount+. For the first time, it will be on Nickelodeon for younger viewers and Univision for Spanish-speaking fans. This Super Bowl will also be the second time it’s shown on multiple networks at the same time, with the first being Super Bowl I.
Super Bowl LVIII host selection
Back on May 23, 2018, the league picked New Orleans as the spot for Super Bowl LVIII. This choice, along with Super Bowl LVII, was part of a new way of deciding locations introduced in Super Bowl LVI. Before, cities could bid to host a Super Bowl, and the league owners voted on the options. But now, the league chooses the possible locations without cities bidding.
In March 2020, the league and the NFLPA decided to extend the regular season from 16 to 17 games starting in 2021. This move shifted Super Bowl LVIII to February 11, 2024, and caused a problem with New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebrations. So, on October 14, 2020, the league officially said that New Orleans would host Super Bowl LIX instead of Super Bowl LVIII. Then, on December 15, 2021, they announced that Las Vegas was the new location.
The official logo for the game was shown on February 13, 2023. It follows the design introduced in Super Bowl LVI, using Roman numerals and showing images of the host city, which, in this case, is the Las Vegas Strip and the Las Vegas sign. The numerals are also slanted inward to look like the architecture of resorts such as the Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas.
