Stellar Blade: Complete Edition is bringing Shift Up’s action game to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, and the developer has revealed how it is adapting the visually demanding title for Nintendo’s hardware. The Switch 2 version is targeting 60 frames per second in both handheld and docked modes, with Shift Up using a combination of Nvidia DLSS upscaling and AMD FSR 3.1 frame interpolation.
The technical details were shared by DongKi Lee, CTO and technical director at Shift Up, in an interview with Nintendo Everything. Lee explained that the team had to optimize several parts of the game for Switch 2, including memory usage, game logic and input/output performance, while attempting to preserve the original gameplay experience.
The approach is notable because Switch 2 supports Nvidia’s DLSS technology but does not provide the same frame-generation functionality available on some PC hardware.
How Stellar Blade Targets 60 FPS on Switch 2
Lee explained that Shift Up uses DLSS for upscaling, but relies on AMD’s FSR 3.1 frame interpolation to increase the displayed frame rate.
“We targeted 60 frames per second in both handheld mode and docked mode,” Lee told Nintendo Everything. He explained that the game first operates at 30 FPS before frame interpolation is applied to reach the 60 FPS target.
The developer’s solution effectively combines technologies from Nvidia and AMD. DLSS handles the upscaling process, while FSR 3.1’s frame interpolation generates additional frames from the rendered output. According to Lee, maintaining consistent latency was also an important consideration when developing the system.

The Switch 2 version is not simply a reduced version of the PS5 release. Stellar Blade originally launched on PS5 in 2024 before reaching PC in 2025, and Shift Up has continued expanding the game with additional content.
The Complete Edition will include the content released during that period, including around 126 costumes, the NieR: Automata and Goddess of Victory: Nikke DLC collaborations, seasonal content and the boss challenge.
Shift Up Optimized Stellar Blade Specifically for Switch 2
The team also had to account for the console’s two operating configurations. Lee said Shift Up wanted to find an appropriate balance between visual quality and performance while allowing players to move between handheld and docked modes.
Switch 2-specific features will extend beyond performance. The game will support touchscreen interactions for certain puzzles, while gyro aiming can be used when Eve’s gun is active in third-person shooting sections. Gyro controls will also be incorporated into fishing activities.
Lee described Shift Up’s collaboration with Nintendo as “very smooth and positive,” noting that Nintendo provided assistance during the studio’s first Switch 2 porting project.
Stellar Blade: Complete Edition is scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2026, giving players a new way to experience Shift Up’s action game with a performance target of 60 FPS across both handheld and docked play.
